Geysar Kashiyeva
Geysar Seyfulla qizi Kashiyeva ( Azerbaijani: ''Qeysər Kaşıyeva''; 7 June 1893, Tiflis – 17 April 1972, Baku) was an Azerbaijani painter. She is considered the first professional female painter in Azerbaijani history. Life and contributions She was born in Tiflis, Russian Empire (now Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia) to a family of an ethnic Azeri officer of the Russian Imperial Army. In 1907–1908 she took a course in professional painting at the Caucasus Artistic Society, where she was taught by Oscar Schmerling (who later worked as caricaturist for the Azeri-language magazine ''Molla Nasraddin''). Tahir Salahov
Tahir Salahov ( Azerbaijani, in full: , russian: Таир Теймур Салахов; 29 November 1928 – 21 May 2021) was a Soviet, Azerbaijani painter and draughtsman. He was First Secretary of the Artists' Union of the USSR (1973–1992), Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts, member of over 20 academies and other creative organizations throughout the world, including academies of art of France, Spain, Germany, and Austria. Biography Salahov was born in Baku. His father Teymur Salahov was a victim of Stalin's repressions, having been arrested in 1937 and executed shortly after. His mother Sona was left to bring up four children on her own but the family did not learn of their father's death until 1956 after Stalin's death. Alakbar Rezaguliyev
Alakbar Rezaguliyev (31 January 1903 in Baku, Baku Governorate – 31 January 1974 in Baku) (alternative spelling: Alekper Rzaguliyev) ( az, Ələkbər Rzaquliyev; russian: Алекпер Рзакулиев) was an Azerbaijani artist. He was awarded the title Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR (1964). Early life Alakbar was born in Baku, into the large family of a small businessman-shopkeeper. Although there were no artists in his family, Rezaguliyev showed artistic talent at an early age. Maral Rahmanzade
Maral Yusif gizi Rahmanzade ( az, Maral Yusif qızı Rəhmanzadə; 1916–2008) also known as Maral Rahmanzade, was a Soviet, Azerbaijani graphic artist and visual artist. She was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan (1964), and recipient of the State Prize. Biography Maral Rahmanzade was born on July 23, 1916, in the Mardakan township near Baku, Russian Empire (now Azerbaijan). From 1930 to 1933 she studied at the Azerbaijan State Technical School of Arts and from 1934 to 1940 she continued her education at the Moscow State Institute of Arts. Her most productive area was within graphic arts, particularly in lithography and coloured linoprints. Rahmanzade created a series of paintings of patriotic content during the Great Patriotic War. Vidadi Narimanbekov
Vidadi Narimanbekov ( az, Vidadi Nərimanbəyov; 13 July 1926 – 13 December 2001) was a painter, Honored Art Worker and People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR. Biography Vidadi's father Farman Narimanbekov was born in Shusha. He was one of the 40 people who went to Europe to study in Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. When he was in Europe started to dating Parisian lady Irma Lya. The young family had been living in France for a long time. Vidadi Narimanbekov was born in Cannes in 1926. He returned to his native country in 1929 with his parents. The Great Patriotic War also had effect on the family. One of the victim of repression by Azerbaijani citizens studying in Europe was Farman Narimanbekov. Farman Bay was exiled to the Russian city of Kolyma, and his wife and children were exiled to Uzbekistan. Togrul Narimanbekov
Togrul Farman oglu Narimanbekov ( az, Toğrul Fərman oğlu Nərimanbəyov, russian: Тогрул Нариманбеков; 7 August 1930 – 2 June 2013) was one of the prominent modern Azerbaijani artists. History Narimbanbekov was born in Baku. His father, Farman Narimanbekov, who hailed from Shusha, studied in Toulouse; in 1929 he came back to Baku and participated in the construction of Mingachevir Hydro Power Plant, but in the 1930s was sentenced to imprisonment. His wife Irma Laroudé, a Frenchwoman, was exiled to Uzbekistan and stayed there till 1961. Toghrul Narimanbekov studied at Azerbaijan Art School named after Azim Azimzade, then, from 1950 to 1955, at Lithuania Institute of Fine Arts. Boyukagha Meshadi oglu Mirzazade ( az, Böyükağa Məşədi oğlu Mirzəzadə, February 21, 1921, Baku – November 3, 2007, Baku) was a prominent Azerbaijani artist, named People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1967. Biography In 1939, Boyukagha Mirzazade graduated from Baku Technical School of the Arts, where Azim Azimzade was one of his teachers. In 1940, Mirzazade entered the Moscow Institute of Fine Arts, but could not complete his education there because of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Later, Mirzazade studied at Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. After graduating, he worked at a technical school of arts as a teacher and an artist. Gunay Israil qizi Mehdizade ( az, Günay İsrail qızı Mehdizadə; born June 18, 1981) is an Azerbaijani painter and a member of Union of Artists of Azerbaijan. She is the author and organizer of Bursa Zeki Müren Fine Arts Lyceum and "Brother School" project of the Art Gymnasium within the National Conservatory of Azerbaijan, as well as author of portrait of Atatürk, exhibited at the house-museum of Atatürk in Ankara.
