Lintz
Burnopfield is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated north of Stanley and Annfield Plain, close to the River Derwent and is 564 feet above sea level. There are around 4,553 inhabitants in Burnopfield. It is located 7 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne and 15 miles from Durham. Etymology The name ''Burnopfield'' probably comes from the Old English meaning "field by the valley stream", although local legend says that the village got its name after an attempted Scottish invasion of England was foiled by literally ''burning up the fields'' to stop the advancing armies. In the 19th century, Burnopfield was usually referred to as ''the Leap'', or in local dialect, as ''the Loup'', after the area of Burnopfield named ''Bryan's Leap''. History Burnopfield was the site of a leper hospital, High Friarside Hospice, which was founded in 1312, but was demolished in approximately 1450. Larry Lintz (born October 10, 1949) is an American former professional baseball player whose career extended from 1971 to 1979 and included Major League service with the Montreal Expos (1973–1975), St. Louis Cardinals (1975), Oakland Athletics (1976–1977) and Cleveland Indians (1978). Primarily a second baseman, Lintz stood tall and weighed . He was a switch-hitter who threw right-handed. In six Major League seasons, Lintz played in 350 games and had 137 runs, 140 hits, and 128 stolen bases. Career Lintz signed with the Expos after being selected out of San Jose State University in the sixth round of the 1971 Major League Baseball draft. Lintz Green Railway Station
Lintz Green Railway Station was on the Derwent Valley Railway Branch of the North Eastern Railway near Consett, County Durham, England. The railway station opened with the rest of the line on 2 December 1867 and closed to passengers on the 2 November 1953. The line closed completely in 1963 and was dismantled with the station site becoming part of the Derwent Walk Country Park. The station was infamous at the time for the unsolved 1911 murder of its stationmaster. Unsolved murder On the night of Saturday 7 October 1911 the sixty-year-old stationmaster, George Wilson, was shot when returning home after closing his office at the station. Although he did not die instantly, when questioned, Wilson was unable to say who had shot him. The motive for the killing was probably robbery as Wilson was in the habit of carrying the day's takings from the booking office to his house, a trip of 50 yards, when he left for the night.
