Lincoln Phillips
Lincoln Phillips (born 4 July 1941) is a Trinidad and Tobago former footballer and soccer coach. He became the first black professional soccer coach in U.S. history in 1968 when he became the player/coach of the Washington Darts and he coached Howard University to two undefeated seasons and NCAA Championships. Phillips was a goalkeeper for Trinidad and Tobago's national team from 1963 to 1967, and with them won a bronze medal in the 1967 Pan American Games. He moved into American professional soccer, ending up with the Darts in 1969. That year he was the ASL's Coach of the Year and made the All-Star Team, while leading the team to the ASL Championship. In 1970, the team moved to the NASL and he was the league's top goalkeeper, setting NASL records for consecutive shutouts and consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, and made the All-Star Team again. Saint James, Trinidad And Tobago
Saint James is a district of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Port of Spain's last major municipal expansion occurred in 1938, when the St. James district north of Woodbrook and west of St. Clair was incorporated into the city limits. In the late 19th century, Indian indentured labourers on nearby sugar estates established houses here, and St. James gradually became the centre of Port of Spain's Indian population, with many streets named after cities and districts in British India. Western Main Road, the area's major thoroughfare, has long been the city's main nightlife district, sometimes nicknamed "the city that never sleeps". Derek Phillips (born 9 April 1975) is an American-born Trinidadian retired footballer who played as a left-sided defender. He has been a member of the Trinidad and Tobago national team. Early life Phillips grew up in Richmond, Virginia where he played for FC Richmond youth club. In 1993, he graduated from Atholton High School. He had played for Atholton his freshman season, then transferred to a school in Richmond for his sophomore and junior seasons. He returned to Atholton for his senior year. He attended University of Maryland, Baltimore County, playing on the men's soccer team in 1994 and 1995. Club career Phillips played in Germany where he played for Eintracht Oberissingheim of the Oberliga. In May 1999, Phillips began the season with the Maryland Mania of the USL A-League. The Baltimore Bays were a professional soccer team based in Baltimore, Maryland founded in 1967 as one of the ten charter members of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). When the NPSL and the rival United Soccer Association (USA) merged in 1968 to form the North American Soccer League (NASL), the team moved to the new league. The Bays played its home matches at Memorial Stadium during its first two seasons and moved to Kirk Field, a high school football stadium, in 1969.
