Limpopo Women's Cricket Team
The Limpopo women's cricket team, also known as the Limpopo Impalas, is the women's representative cricket team for the South African province of Limpopo. They compete in the Women's Provincial Programme and the CSA Women's Provincial T20 Competition. History Limpopo Women joined the South African domestic system in the 2004–05 season, competing in the Women's Provincial League. In their first season, they finished third in their group of four, winning one of their six matches. They have competed in the tournament ever since, but have never made it out of the initial group stage. The side has also competed in the CSA Women's Provincial T20 Competition since its inception in 2012–13, but have again never made it out of the initial group stages. CSA Women's Provincial Programme
The CSA Women's Provincial Programme, also known as the CSA Women's Provincial One-Day Tournament, is a women's domestic one-day cricket competition organised by Cricket South Africa. The competition currently sees sixteen provincial teams competing in 50-over matches, and has existed, under various names, since the 1995–96 season. The most successful side in the history of the competition are Western Province, with eight recorded title wins. The holders are North West, who won the 2021–22 tournament. The CSA Women's Provincial T20 Competition is a women's domestic Twenty20 cricket competition organised by Cricket South Africa. The tournament began in the 2012–13 season, and currently sees sixteen teams competing. Western Province are the most successful side in the history of the competition, with seven title wins, as well as being the current holders, winning the 2021–22 tournament. History The tournament began in the 2012–13 season, running alongside the CSA Women's Provincial League. Sixteen teams competed in four groups, with the group winners progressing to the knockout rounds. Western Province won the competition, beating Gauteng in the final. The following tournament, 2013–14, was won by Boland, who beat Northerns in the final. Western Province then went on to win the next four competitions, between 2014–15 and 2017–18. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Limpopo
Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The capital and largest city in the province is Polokwane, while the provincial legislature is situated in Lebowakgomo. The province is made up of 3 former homelands of Lebowa, Gazankulu and Venda and the former parts of the Transvaal province. The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players. Sunette Stella Viljoen (born 6 October 1983) is a South African sportswoman who has represented her country in both cricket and athletics.
