Life form (also spelled life-form or lifeform) is an entity that is living, such as plants (flora) and animals (fauna). It is estimated that more than 99% of all species that ever existed on Earth, amounting to over five billion species, are extinct. Earth is the only celestial body known to harbor life forms. ''Lifeforms'' is the second studio album by British electronica group The Future Sound of London. The album was released on 23 May 1994 by Virgin Records and later by Astralwerks. Background The Future Sound of London began work on the album around the same time as they were finishing ''Tales of Ephidrina'', and the more complex, ambient direction they were taking resulted in ''Lifeforms''. The artwork also progressed from previous works, with soon-to-be familiar images of the "Witch Girl" Sheuneen Ta and the "Spike" computer model having been previously used on the group's ''Cascade'' EP. Reception ''Lifeforms'' achieved commercial success and produced hit singles such as "Cascade" and "Lifeforms". "Lifeforms" is a song by British electronic music group The Future Sound of London, released as the second single from their 1994 album, '' Lifeforms''. Vocals on the single were performed by Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins. The original version of "Lifeforms" from the album of the same name is present as "Path 3", while the album track "Life Form Ends" from the album can be heard in somewhat remixed form as "Path 5". A 2:50 edit of "Path 4" was used as a radio edit and for the promotional video for the single. It is this version that appears on the commercial compilation album The Best... Album in the World...Ever! (vol 1). In 1995, Fraser called the collaboration "disappointing". She said, "I sang my heart out for eleven fucking hours on that record and all that is on it is something that sounds like a sample. It was good, but it could have been brilliant." ''Lifeforms'' is the sixth studio album by American alternative rock band Angels & Airwaves. The album was released on September 24, 2021, and marks the longest gap between albums for the band following 2014's '' The Dream Walker''. It is the band's first album with bassist Matt Rubano, who replaced Matt Wachter in 2019, and the first with guitarist David Kennedy since 2011's '' Love: Part Two''. ''Lifeforms'' was a conscious effort by the band's frontman, Tom DeLonge, to return to their earlier sound, while also incorporating elements of punk rock and post-hardcore. To do this, the band put a higher emphasis on the guitar parts so that the album would have a more "rebellious and emotional connection" to listeners. A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics) is a fictional criminal organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. In most versions, it is depicted as a think tank of brilliant scientists dedicated to overthrowing the world's governments through technological means. The organization started out as a branch of HYDRA, created by Baron Strucker. Its most notable creations include the Cosmic Cube, Super-Adaptoid, and MODOK; the latter has been depicted as a prominent member of A.I.M., and in some incarnations is the organization's leader. A.I.M. has been featured in several media adaptations, including television series and video games. ''Life Form'', (french: Une forme de vie) is the nineteenth novel by Belgian writer Amélie Nothomb, published in French in 2010 by Albin Michel and translated into English by Alison Anderson. It was nominated at the International Dublin Literary Award. The short novel features a fictional correspondence between Amélie Nothomb the writer, and Melvin Mapple, an obese lonely and anxious US Army soldier stationed in Baghdad, Iraq. Plant life-form schemes constitute a way of classifying plants alternatively to the ordinary species-genus-family scientific classification. The Raunkiær system is a system for categorizing plants using life-form categories, devised by Danish botanist Christen C. Raunkiær and later extended by various authors. History It was first proposed in a talk to the ''Danish Botanical Society'' in 1904 as can be inferred from the printed discussion of that talk, but not the talk itself, nor its title. The journal, Botanisk Tidsskrift, published brief comments on the talk by M.P. Porsild, with replies by Raunkiær. A fuller account appeared in French the following year. Carbon Based Lifeforms is a Swedish electronic music duo formed in Gothenburg in 1996 by Johannes Hedberg and Daniel Vadestrid (''né'' Ringström). History Formation and early period Hedberg and Ringström (both born in 1976) first met in 1991, and started collaborating on the music tracker sequencer software ProTracker and later, the Amiga computer system. In 1994, they started to work on PCs and formed a music tracker trio with fellow Swedish musician and producer Mikael Lindqvist called Bassment Studios. In the following year, they moved once more to MIDI-oriented music and formed Notch, focusing on acid, techno, and house music. Form of life (german: Lebensform) is a term used sparingly by Ludwig Wittgenstein in posthumously published works ''Philosophical Investigations'', ''On Certainty'' and in parts of his ''Nachlass''. Wittgenstein in his ''Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus'' ''(TLP)'' was concerned with the structure of language, responding to Gottlob Frege, Frege and Bertrand Russell, Russell. Later, Wittgenstein found the need to revise the view held in TLP as he did not resolve issues concerning elementary propositions. Leading up to a revised view in his PI, still concerned with language, but now focusing on how it is ''used'' and not insisting that it has an inherent structure or set of rules.
