Life Begins In College
''Life Begins in College'' is a 1937 American comedy film directed by William A. Seiter. It marked the Ritz Brothers' first starring role in a feature film. Plot The action takes place at Lombardy College, founded "to give the Indian nations of North America access to higher education". Little Black Cloud (Nat Pendleton) enrolls as "George Black". After being the subject of a hazing prank by football star Bob Hayner (Dick Baldwin), George decides he is too humiliated to stay at school. He first stops to get his ripped pants repaired and meets the Ritz Brothers who convince him to stay. Tim O'Hara (Fred Stone), the football coach, is being pressured to resign because of his age. Harry Ritz (born Harry Joachim; May 22, 1907 – March 29, 1986), was an American comedian and actor. He was the youngest of the Ritz Brothers. Early life Ritz was born Harry Joachim on May 28, 1907, in Newark, New Jersey. He was born the youngest of six children to parents Max (December 1871 – January 4, 1939) and Pauline Joachim, (May 1874 – November 26, 1935). His father was born in Austria-Hungary and owned a haberdashery and his mother was born in Russia. Ritz was the brother to fellow comedians (and future comedy partners), Al and Jimmy Ritz. Charles Tobias (August 15, 1898 – July 7, 1970) was an American songwriter. Biography Born in New York City, United States, Tobias grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts with brothers Harry Tobias and Henry Tobias, also songwriters. He started his musical career in vaudeville. In 1923, he founded his own music publishing firm and worked on Tin Pan Alley. Tobias referred to himself as "the boy who writes the songs you sing." Darrell Ware (1906–1944) was an American screenwriter and film producer. Ware and Karl Tunberg were nominees for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 14th Academy Awards for their film ''Tall, Dark, and Handsome''.
