Life (Inspiral Carpets Album)
''Life'' is the first studio album by the British indie rock band Inspiral Carpets. It was released on 23 April 1990 by Cow Records, through Mute Records, during the period dubbed Madchester by the British media. The group released three singles from this album: "Move", "This Is How It Feels" and "She Comes in the Fall", with the latter two in different versions from those found on the album. It was reissued in 2013 with the ''PlaneCrash'' and ''TrainSurfing'' EPs and an unreleased John Peel session as bonus tracks, plus the ''21790'' live video on a bonus DVD. The 2013 reissue is based on the original UK CD release. A slightly modified version of ''Life'' was released in North America. It dropped the track "Besides Me" and added "Commercial Rain" (a re-recorded version of a B-side to the "Joe" single) and three tracks from their then-forthcoming '' Island Head'' EP. Clint Boon
Clinton David Boon (born 28 June 1959) is an English musician, DJ and radio presenter. Boon originally rose to fame as the keyboard player (and sometimes vocalist) of Inspiral Carpets. Music career Born in Oldham, Lancashire, Boon joined the Inspiral Carpets in 1986 after previously playing in a band called The Mill. After the Inspiral Carpets split in 1995, Boon went on to form The Clint Boon Experience releasing two albums under this name – ''The Compact Guide to Pop Music and Space Travel'' (1999), and ''Life in Transition'' (2000). In this year the band released the single "Do What You Do (Earworm Song)", which featured Fran Healy, the lead singer of the band Travis. Boon has his own record label, 'Booney Tunes', signing artists such as Elaine Palmer, and has also been a regular DJ at a number of nightclubs around England, and in Wrexham, North Wales. "96 Tears" is a song recorded by the American garage rock band ? and the Mysterians in 1966 (''see'' 1966 in music). In October of that year, it was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the U.S. and on the RPM (magazine), ''RPM'' 100 in Canada. ''Billboard'' ranked the record as the #5 song for 1966. It is ranked #213 on the ''Rolling Stone'' list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Joe (Inspiral Carpets Song)
"Joe" is a single by British rock music, rock band Inspiral Carpets, released in 1989. Written in 1985, it was first song recorded on New Year's Eve 1987 as part of the demo album ''Dung 4'', which was released in May 1989. The original version was written by Clint Boon and sung by Stephen Holt, but when Tom Hingley joined the band in 1988, it was modified. The modified version, issued on the "Joe" 12" in 1989 became the standard, and it was still played even after Holt rejoined the band. Music video A music video for the song was filmed by an unknown avantgardist in 1990. It features shots of a homeless man and footage of a British cities including London (including St Paul's Cathedral and Christ Church, Spitalfields) mixed with shots of many-coloured lines running up and down the screen, filmed with a blue filter. "This Is How It Feels" is a song by the Inspiral Carpets. Written by Clint Boon, it was their first single to enter the UK Top 40, where it peaked at #14. It reached #149 on the Australian ARIA singles chart. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Colin Larkin (writer)
Colin Larkin (born 1949) is a British writer and entrepreneur. He founded, and was the editor-in-chief of, the ''Encyclopedia of Popular Music'', described by ''The Times'' as "the standard against which all others must be judged". Along with the ten-volume encyclopedia, Larkin also wrote the book ''All Time Top 1000 Albums'', and edited the ''Guinness Who's Who of Jazz'', the ''Guinness Who's Who of Blues'', and the ''Virgin Encyclopedia Of Heavy Rock''. Inspiral Carpets
Inspiral Carpets are an English rock band, part of the late-1980s/early-1990s Madchester movement. Formed in Oldham in 1980, the band's most successful lineup featured frontman Tom Hingley, drummer Craig Gill, guitarist Graham Lambert, bassist Martyn Walsh and keyboardist Clint Boon. Several line-ups were loosely used from 1980 until Lambert and singer Stephen Holt met at The Moor End indie disco in Oldham 1983. Holt sang on the first two independent singles. Holt departed the band before they signed with Mute Records,Thompson, Dave (2000) ''Alternative Rock'', Miller Freeman, , p.425-427 Inspiral Carpets was known for using organs and distorted guitars with influences from psychedelic rock.
