The lieutenant governor of Kansas is the second-ranking member of the executive branch of Kansas state government. The lieutenant governor is elected on a ticket with the governor for a four-year term. The lieutenant governor succeeds to the office of governor if the office becomes vacant, and also serves as acting governor if the governor is incapacitated or absent from the state. Sheffield Ingalls
Sheffield Ingalls (March 28, 1875 – January 17, 1937) was a banker, attorney and Republican politician in the state of Kansas. He served as the 20th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas from 1913 to 1915 serving under Governor George H. Hodges. Outside politics he was a successful investor and banker in Atchison, Kansas. He served in the Kansas House of Representatives. His father John James Ingalls was also a Kansas legislator. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas in the class of 1895 and served as chairman of the Alumni association from 1905 to 1906 and again from 1928 to 1929. Richard Joseph Hopkins (April 4, 1873 – August 28, 1943) was a justice of the Kansas Supreme Court and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. Education and career Born in Jefferson City, Missouri, Hopkins received a Bachelor of Laws from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 1901. He was in private practice in Chicago, Illinois from 1901 to 1906, and in Garden City, Kansas from 1906 to 1913. He was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives in 1909, and was thereafter the 19th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas, from 1911 to 1912 serving under Governor Walter R. Stubbs. William James Fitzgerald (Kansas Politician)
William James Fitzgerald (November 1, 1861 – December 17, 1937) was an American politician. Between 1907 and 1911 he served as Lieutenant Governor of Kansas. Life Fitzgerald was born in Monroe, Wisconsin. He attended the Lombard College in Galesburg, Illinois. In the following years he taught schools in Illinois and Iowa. Since 1883 he lived in Dodge City, Kansas where he was engaged in the cattle and farming business. In addition he raised horses. He joined the Republican Party and became a member of the city council and the education board of Dodge City. In 1894 he was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives where he became a member of the ways and means committee. He was also the chairman of a sub committee to investigate old claims and accounts against the state. He remained in this chamber until 1897. David John Hanna (4 June 1866 – 12 April 1946) was an American politician. Between 1903 and 1907 he served as Lieutenant Governor of Kansas. Life David Hanna was born in Coulterville, Illinois. In his childhood he moved with his parents to Clay County, Kansas where he grew up. Later he was engaged in farming, cattle raising and in the real estate business. In addition he became President of the ''Farmers and Merchants Bank of Hill City''. He joined the Republican Party and in 1896 and 1897 he represented Graham County, Kansas in the Kansas Legislature. He was also a member of the Republican State Central Committee for six years. James Armstrong Troutman (December 1, 1853, in Fulton County, Indiana – December 25, 1926, in Topeka, Kansas) was an American politician, teacher and attorney. Between 1895 and 1897 he served as Lieutenant Governor of Kansas. Life James Troutman was born in Fulton County, Indiana. For three years he taught school in Indiana and Kansas. Percy Daniels (September 17, 1840 in Globe Village in Woonsocket, Rhode Island – February 14, 1916 in Girard, Kansas) was an American soldier, businessman, civil engineer, surveyor, author and Populist politician. Early life and Civil War Daniels was the second son of Judge David Daniels (1804-1847), a Rhode Island lawyer and businessman who acquired his title by serving as a Judge of the Common Pleas court for a term. Daniels' mother was Nancy Ballou, daughter of Dexter Ballou, a wealthy Rhode Island mill-owner. Daniels' father and mother both died when he was six years old. He received a good education, studying at Westminster Seminary in Westminster, Vermont and the University Grammar School in Providence, Rhode Island.
