Liceu Nacional Afonso De Albuquerque
The Lyceum (Liceu) of Goa (1854-1961), initially called the Liceu Central de Nova Goa and, later, the Liceu Nacional Afonso de Albuquerque, was a secondary public educational institution in Goa created by decree on November 9, 1854. The decree was issued by then Governor of the State of Portuguese India Joaquim José Januário Lapa, the first Viscount of Vila Nova de Ourem. The lyceum celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2004. Current status With the end of Portuguese India, the institution joined the Indian system of education, to become extinct in its earlier form. Following the end of Portuguese rule in Goa, and with the absorption of the region into the Indian Union, "this prime educational institution suffered a quick demise". The State of India ( pt, Estado da Índia), also referred as the Portuguese State of India (''Estado Português da Índia'', EPI) or simply Portuguese India (), was a state of the Portuguese Empire founded six years after the discovery of a sea route to the Indian subcontinent by Vasco da Gama, a subject of the Kingdom of Portugal. The capital of Portuguese India served as the governing centre of a string of military forts and trade posts scattered all over the Indian Ocean. The first viceroy, Francisco de Almeida established his base of operations at Fort Manuel, after the Kingdom of Cochin negotiated to become a protectorate of Portugal in 1505. Bombay High Court
The High Court of Bombay is the high court of the states of Maharashtra and Goa in India, and the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. It is seated primarily at Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay), and is one of the oldest high courts in India. The High Court has regional branches at Nagpur and Aurangabad in Maharashtra and Panaji, the capital of Goa. The first Chief Justice, the Attorney General and Solicitor General of Independent India were from this court. Since India's Independence, 22 judges from this court have been elevated to the Supreme Court and 8 have been appointed to the office of Chief Justice of India. The smallest state in India, Goa covers an area of 3,702 km2. Situated on the western coast of India, Goa shares its northern boundary with Maharashtra.
