Library Council Of New South Wales
The Library Council of New South Wales is the governing body of the State Library of New South Wales, as described in The Library Act 1939 (NSW). The Library Council also has specific responsibilities to monitor the operation of public libraries in NSW which includes inspections and the payment of financial subsidies. State Library Of New South Wales
The State Library of New South Wales, part of which is known as the Mitchell Library, is a large heritage-listed special collections, reference and research library open to the public and is one of the oldest libraries in Australia. Established in 1869 its collections date back to the Australian Subscription Library established in the colony of New South Wales (now a States and territories of Australia, state of Australia) in 1826. Public Libraries
A public library is a library that is accessible by the general public and is usually funded from public sources, such as taxes. Local government is a generic term for the lowest tiers of public administration within a particular sovereign state. The Barrier Miner
''The Barrier Miner'' was a daily broadsheet newspaper published in Broken Hill in far western New South Wales from 1888 to 1974. History First published on 28 February 1888, ''The Barrier Miner'' was published continuously until 25 November 1974. Copies are available on microfilm and online via Trove Digitised Newspapers. The paper was revived briefly in 2005; an index to births deaths and marriages has been prepared which also notes additional publication dates between 16 December 2005 and 31 July 2008. The paper closed down for a second time in 2008 with the managing director, Margaret McBride stating that "...due to commercial reasons the paper would no longer service Broken Hill and the region...". Local Government In Australia
Local government is the third level of government in Australia, administered with limited autonomy under the states and territories, and in turn beneath the federal government. Local government is not mentioned in the Constitution of Australia, and two referendums in 1974 and 1988 to alter the Constitution relating to local government were unsuccessful. Sir Mungo William MacCallum Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George, KCMG (26 February 1854 – 3 September 1942) was Chancellor#University Chancellors, Chancellor of the University of Sydney from 1934 to 1936, and a noted Literary criticism, literary critic. Sir Daniel Levy (30 November 1872 – 20 May 1937) was an Australian politician. Early life He was born in London to tailor Joseph Levy and Esther, ''née'' Cohen. He arrived in Sydney in 1880 and attended Crown Street Superior School, Sydney Grammar School and the University of Sydney, graduating with a first in Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 1893 and a Bachelor of Law in 1895, in which year he was called to the Bar. In 1902 he was admitted as a solicitor. Levy was active in Jewish affairs and was co-editor of the ''Australasian Hebrew'' newspaper in 1896 with Percy J. Marks. Political career He entered the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1901 as the Liberal member for Sydney-Fitzroy, transferring to Darlinghurst in 1904. Belinda Hutchinson
Belinda Jane Hutchinson (born 4 August 1953) is an Australian businessperson, accountant and philanthropist. Education Hutchinson graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Economics degree in 1976. Career She was a member of the board of directors of Australian companies AGL Energy and QBE Insurance. Hutchinson was appointed chancellor of the University of Sydney in 2013. In August 2015 she was made chair of Thales Australia, the local branch of a French arms manufacturer.
