Libra Records was a record label that well known Singaporean acts released their recordings on. One of its most well-known acts was the Western Union Band. The group had two no. 1 records on the label. Other acts to have their recordings released on the label were Kelsom, Glass Onion and The Sandboys. Background The Sandboys were the first group to have a single released on the label with "Candle Light" bw "Turn Around". The band contained Hillary Francis was the lead singer and drummer. In late 1971, '' Billboard'' listed Garrison, Kelsom, No Sweat, Tenderness and Western Union Band as belonging to the label. The Western Union Band had "Something About You Baby" bw "Driving Me Crazy" released on Libra LRSP 009. By 18 March 1972, the song was at no.4 in the Malaysian Top 10. Before the year was out, the Western Union Band would have 2 no.1 hits. For the week ending 24 June, "Ive Found My Freedom" was at no.8 in Singapore, but it had hit the no.1 spot in Malaysia. Western Union Band
Western Union Band was a band from Singapore in the 1970s. They had major hits in Singapore and Malaysia with "Driving Me Crazy", "I've Found My Freedom" and "Sausalito". Background The band was a made of men from Indian, Chinese and Malay origin. They played regularly at the Moonshine bar in Katong. The group evolved out of Rubber Band which was formed in 1969 by Chris Vadham. Vadham had previously been in a band called High Ground. Bass player Tony Chong was founding member of the early 60s band The Thunderbirds, whose biggest hit was in 1966 with "My Lonely Heart". Career Before the year of 1971 was out, the group had released the singles, "My Lady" bw "Stepping Thru" and "Something About You" bw "Driving Me Crazy". Both of them were on the Libra Records label. "On the Ride (You Do It Once, You Do It Twice)" is a song recorded and released as a single in 1972 by the Dutch musical ensemble, Continental Uptight Band. It was written by Lynsey de Paul (credited as Rubin) and Edward Adamberry. The single was a chart hit in the Netherlands, reaching No. 23 in March 1972. It also reached No. 21 on the Radio Northsea International Prediction Hit 40 listing on 4 March 1972 after being a Smash Play on the radio station a month earlier. The single was also released in most territories of the world including the UK, US, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Brazil and Argentina, with "Northern Islands" being the B-side on all of these releases.
