Libia Castro (born 1970, Madrid, Spain) and Ólafur Ólafsson (born 1973, Reykjavik, Iceland) are collaborative artists based in Rotterdam and Berlin. Career Formed in 1997, their artistic practice has grown to encompass a variety of media, genres, and disciplines, from political history to gender studies and sociology. Castro and Ólafsson have exhibited their works at various international venues, including TENT Rotterdam, Liverpool Biennial, the 19th Sydney Biennale, the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow, and the 54th Venice Biennale. Laugavegur (Reykjavík)
Laugavegur () is the primary commercial artery of downtown Reykjavík, Iceland and one of the oldest shopping streets. The name means "wash road", as it used to lead to the hot springs in Laugardalur where in olden times the women of Reykjavík took their laundry for washing. It was constructed in 1885 as a result of town council's decision. It experienced economic setbacks mostly because shopping malls opened elsewhere, most notably Kringlan that opened in 1987 and Smáralind that opened in 2001. It maintains the charm of a historical shopping street and is still home to the more exclusive stores in Iceland. It is also home to many bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center
The contemporary art institution Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center opened in 2001 and was located on the pedestrian Istiklal Avenue in Istanbul, Turkey. Platform Garanti organized exhibitions; conferences and events; hosted an international residency program; and maintained a library and archive of contemporary art. History Platform was founded by Vasif Kortun initially with the support of the Ottoman Bank and later, once the Ottoman Bank had been incorporated under a different name, by Garanti Bank.
