Liam Johnson (born 15 August 1977) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played for the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL. He primarily played . Playing career In Round 17 of the 1996 ARL season, at 18-years old, Johnson made his first grade debut for the North Queensland Cowboys in their 24–14 win over the Gold Coast Chargers at Carrara Stadium. In Round 21 of the 1996 season, he scored his first try in a 24–20 win over the St George Dragons. In 1998, Johnson played two NRL games for the Cowboys, spending the majority of the season playing for the Townsville Stingers in the Queensland Cup. The 1996 ARL premiership (also known as the 1996 Optus Cup due to sponsorship from Optus) was the 89th season of professional rugby league football in Australia, and the second to be administered by the Australian Rugby League (ARL). Carrara Stadium
Carrara Stadium (known commercially as Metricon Stadium) is a stadium on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, located in the suburb of Carrara. The stadium is primarily used for Australian rules football, serving as the home ground of the Gold Coast Suns, who compete in the Australian Football League. The St. George Dragons is an Australian rugby league football club from St George District in Sydney, New South Wales that played in the top level New South Wales competition and Australian Rugby League competitions from the 1921 until the 1997 ARL season, as well as the unified 1998 National Rugby League season. The 1996 North Queensland Cowboys season was the 2nd in the club's history. Coached by Graham Lowe and captained by Adrian Vowles, they competed in the Optus Cup. The 1998 North Queensland Cowboys season was the 4th in the club's history. Coached by Tim Sheens and captained by John Lomax, they competed in the inaugural season of the newly formed National Rugby League (NRL) competition.
