Leverton, Berkshire
Leverton is a small hamlet in West Berkshire, England, close to the border with Wiltshire and around north-west of Hungerford History Leverton appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as lands owned by the Abingdon Abbey, with 9 households, and valued at 2 shillings and ten pence. Its name was likely inspired by the woman's name ''Leofwaru's Farm'', and it would go on to become the estate village of Chilton Lodge estate. By the middle ages there were approximately 13 farmsteads associated with the village. These were demolished over the course of the 19th century. Leverton was a hamlet under the civil parish of Chilton Foliat, an unusual parish as it was split across Wiltshire and Berkshire. Leverton, however, was situated completely on the Berkshire side of the parish, and would be transferred to Hungerford parish in 1895. Leverton is a village and civil parish in the Boston district of Lincolnshire, England, about east-north-east of Boston, on the A52 road. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 689. It is one of eighteen parishes which, together with Boston, form the Borough of Boston in the county of Lincolnshire, England. The local government has been arranged in this way since the reorganisation of 1 April 1974, which resulted from the Local Government Act 1972. This parish forms part of the Coastal electoral ward. Hitherto the parish had formed part of Boston Rural District, in the Parts of Holland. Holland was one of the three divisions (formally known as ''parts'') of the traditional county of Lincolnshire. South Leverton is a village and civil parish in Bassetlaw, north Nottinghamshire, England, four miles from Retford. According to the 2001 census it has a population of 478, increasing only marginally to 480 at the 2011 census. Jim Leverton
Jim Leverton (born 1946, Dover, Kent, England) is an English professional musician, with a career spanning nearly fifty years, including as a sidesman to the Jimi Hendrix Experience's Noel Redding, Steve Marriott, Blodwyn Pig and the Canterbury scene band Caravan. Early years After leaving school in Folkestone in 1964, Leverton spent a short while as an apprentice bricklayer but it was not long before he decided his future was as a musician. By the early 1960s he was already working in semi-professional beat groups in and around Dover, including The Big Beats (1962–63). By 1964 he was ready to work full-time in music, and joined The Burnettes from Folkestone who had Leverton's friend Noel Redding on guitar. They broke up 18 months later having released two singles. Leverton soon joined another band with Noel Redding, The Loving Kind (1965–67) formerly The Lonely Ones. Thomas Leverton
Thomas Leverton (c.1743 – 23 September 1824) was an English architect. Life He was born in Waltham Abbey, Essex, where he was baptised on 11 June 1743, the son of the builder Lancelot Leverton. Having learned his father's trade he acquired the skills of architecture with the help of patrons. He built houses both in London and the countryside, including Watton Wood Hall (now Woodhall Park), Hertfordshire, built in 1777–82 for Sir Thomas Rumbold, which includes a hall decorated in the Etruscan style. In 1780 he designed Plaistow Lodge (now Quernmore School) for Peter Thellusson at Bromley, Kent in a style suggestive of Adams. His domed refit of Scampston Hall near Malton, Yorkshire (1803), reflected the work of Wyatt. Other houses by Leverton, now demolished, included Woodford Hall, Essex, built in 1775 for William Hunt, and Riddlesworth Hall, Norfolk, built in 1792 for Silvanus Bevan III.
