Troy Donald Jamerson (born October 31, 1972), better known by his stage name Pharoahe Monch, is an American rapper from South Jamaica, Queens, New York. ''Desire'' is the second solo album from hip hop artist Pharoahe Monch, released on June 26, 2007. The album comes eight years after the rapper's critically acclaimed solo debut, '' Internal Affairs'', which followed the break-up of Monch's former group Organized Konfusion. After a short stint on Geffen Records, a number of labels began a bidding war for the rapper, including Eminem's Shady Records, Denaun Porter's Runyon Ave. Records, Bad Boy Records and Sony Records. In early 2006, it was announced that Pharoahe had signed a deal with Steve Rifkind's Street Records Corporation for the release of his second album. Career In addition to Slum Village, Black Milk has worked with J Dilla, Elzhi, Phat Kat, Frank-N-Dank, Lloyd Banks, Canibus, Pharoahe Monch, RZA, Danny Brown (rapper), Danny Brown, Black Thought, T3 and many more throughout his career. "Push" is the first single from Pharoahe Monch's 2007 album ''Desire''. The single was released September 11, 2006 as a 12" vinyl, but was later released as a CD single and a digital download. Produced by Pharoahe Monch, the song features an upbeat sound and a prominent use of horns played by Tower of Power. It features encouraging raps provided by Pharoahe Monch as well as background vocals sung by MeLa Machinko and Showtyme. The song contains an interpolation from Joe Zawinul's "Country Preacher." Its music video, directed by Paul Minor, features Monch rapping during the New York City blackout of 1977. The song is also featured in the NBA series 2007 video game NBA Street Homecourt. The song failed to chart, yet it received generally positive critical attention. The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12″) is a type of vinyl ( polyvinyl chloride or PVC) gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a 'single' or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs (long play) which have several songs on each side.
