Les Wood (trade Unionist)
Leslie Walter Wood (27 November 1920 – 11 October 2010) was a British trade unionist. Wood was educated at Birmingham Central Technical College before becoming an apprentice carpenter in 1935. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. After the war, he returned to carpentry, working for Cadbury's in Bournville. The General Council of the Trades Union Congress is an elected body which is responsible for carrying out the policies agreed at the annual British Trade Union Congresses (TUC). Organisation The council has 56 members, all of whom must be proposed by one of the unions affiliated to the TUC. Unions with more members receive an automatic allocation of seats, in proportion to their membership. Smaller unions propose candidates for eleven elected seats. Albert Williams (12 February 1927 – 28 November 2007) was a British trade unionist. Born in Stockport, Williams left school at the age of fourteen and completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer with the Manchester Corporation. During World War II, he served in India and South East Asia, remaining in the forces until 1948. Sir George Fenwick Smith (24 June 1914 – 21 November 1978) was a Scottish trade unionist. Smith was born in Arbroath, Angus, and educated at Inverbrothock and Downfield Schools.
