Les Hommes Libres
''Free Men'' (french: Les Hommes libres) is a 2011 French war drama film written and directed by Ismaël Ferroukhi, which recounts the largely untold story about the role that Algerian and other Muslims from the Maghreb in Paris played in the French Resistance and as rescuers of Jews during the German occupation (1940–1944). It features two historic figures: Si Kaddour Benghabrit, rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, and Salim Halali, an Algerian Jewish singer. The film stars Tahar Rahim playing a fictional young Algerian and Michael Lonsdale as the rector. Plot In occupied Paris, the young unemployed Algerian, Younes Ben Daoud, makes a living on the black market. He is arrested by the police, and to avoid prison he agrees to spy on the Paris Mosque. The police suspect that the mosque leadership, including its rector Si Kaddour Benghabrit, is helping resistance fighters and protecting North African Jews by giving them Muslim birth certificates. Ismaël Ferroukhi
Ismaël Ferroukhi (born 26 June 1962) is a French- Moroccan film director and screenwriter. Ferroukhi was born in Kenitra. He gained exposure with his 1992 short film ''L'Exposé'', which won the Kodak Prize at the 1993 Cannes Film Festival. Following, Ferroukhi co-wrote the Cédric Kahn film '' Trop de bonheur'' (1994). His directorial debut '' Le Grand Voyage'', produced by Humbert Balsan and Ognon Pictures, won the Lion of the Future "Luigi De Laurentiis" Award for a First Feature Film at the 61st Venice Film Festival in 2004. Mahmoud Shalaby
Mahmoud (or Mahmud) Shalaby, or Mahmood Shalabi ( ar, محمود شلبي; he, מחמוד שלאבי or מחמוד שלבי), is an Israeli Arab actor born on July 19, 1982, in Acre. He has appeared in several films produced or co-produced in France and received the award for best male actor at the Film Festival of La Réunion in 2011 for the role of Naïm in the film ''A Bottle in the Gaza Sea'', directed by Thierry Binisti and adapted from the novel ''Une bouteille dans la mer de Gaza'' by Valérie Zenatti. Gestapo
