Les Brown (bandleader)
Lester Raymond Brown (March 14, 1912 – January 4, 2001) was an American jazz musician who for over six decades (1938-2000) led his big band, later called Les Brown and His Band of Renown. Biography Brown was born in Reinerton-Orwin-Muir, Pennsylvania, Reinerton, Pennsylvania. He enrolled in the Conway Military Band School (later part of Ithaca College) in 1926, studying with famous bandleader Patrick Conway for three years before receiving a music scholarship to the New York Military Academy, where he graduated in 1932. Brown attended college at Duke University from 1932 to 1936. There he led the group Duke Ambassadors, Les Brown and His Blue Devils, who performed regularly on Duke's campus and up and down the east coast. Brown took the band on an extensive summer tour in 1936. At the end of the tour, while some of the band members returned to Duke to continue their education, others stayed on with Brown and continued to tour, becoming in 1938 the Les Brown Orchestra. Leslie Calvin Brown (born February 17, 1945) is an American politician and motivational speaker. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1977 to 1981. Early life Brown was born with his twin brother, Wesley, in Liberty City, a low-income section of Miami, Florida. He was adopted by Mamie Brown, a 38-year-old single woman who worked as a cafeteria attendant and domestic assistant. Brown claims that he was declared "educable mentally retarded" in grade school, which damaged his self-esteem and confidence. Professional life According to many of Brown's speeches, when he first decided to get his life into order, he went to a radio station he was repeatedly unsuccessful with his speeches. It was only after the on-air failures of the previous afternoon DJ that he was hired full-time. Les Brown V is a former American football tight end for the FXFL Blacktips of the Fall Experimental Football League (FXFL). An undrafted free agent prior to 2012, Brown was signed and subsequently released by the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League (NFL) during the offseason, as was documented in the 2012 season of documentary television series '' Hard Knocks.'' Prior to joining the Dolphins, Brown was a finance student and college basketball player. Lester Louis Brown (20 December 1928 - 4 November 2013) was an American "pioneer in television journalism". He was also a publisher and book author, with topics reporting on the business of television. He founded a magazine called ''Channels of Communications'' in 1981. Family and childhood Early life Brown was born in Indiana Harbor, East Chicago, Indiana, on 20 December 1928. He was a first generation American of Polish-German Jewish descent. His parents, Irving H. Brown and Helen Feigenbaum, migrated to the United States shortly before the First World War. His father ran a store and Brown grew up with his sisters, Marion and Anita. Leslie Browne (born June 29, 1957) is an American prima ballerina and actress. She was a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre in New York City from 1986 until 1993.
