Lepetodrilus Sp. East Scotia Ridge
''Lepetodrilus'' sp. East Scotia Ridge (nomen nudum) is an as yet undescribed species of small, deep-sea sea snail, a hydrothermal vent limpet, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Lepetodrilidae. The first information about this species, under the name "''Lepetodrilus'' n. sp.", was published on 3 January 2012. Distribution This species is known from two sites near hydrothermal vents in the East Scotia Ridge: from 2,394 m depth at the E9 vent site, and from 2,608 m depth at the E2 site. Description Phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome-c oxidase I (COI) gene of this limpet ( GenBank accession number JN628254) and a range of other ''Lepetodrilus'' species, using Bayesian inference, places this species from East Scotia Ridge as a sister taxon to '' Lepetodrilus atlanticus'', with a sequence divergence from this species of 5.48%. Kiwa (crustacean)
''Kiwa'' is a genus of marine decapods living at deep-sea hydrothermal vents and cold seeps. The animals are commonly referred to as "yeti lobsters" or "yeti crabs", after the legendary yeti, because of their "hairy" or bristly appearance. The genus is placed in its own family, Kiwaidae, in the superfamily Chirostyloidea. Five species have been described: '' Kiwa hirsuta'' discovered in 2005 on the Pacific-Antarctic Ridge, ''Kiwa puravida'' discovered in 2006 at cold seeps in the East Pacific (all other species are from hydrothermal vents), '' Kiwa tyleri'', known colloquially as the "Hoff crab", from the East Scotia Ridge, and '' Kiwa araonae'' from the Australian-Antarctic Ridge. ''Gigantopelta chessoia'' is a species of deep sea snail from hydrothermal vents, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Peltospiridae. Taxonomy The first information about this species, under the name "Peltospiroidea n. sp." or "peltospiroid gastropod", was published on 3 January 2012. Peltospiroidea is the name of a superfamily of gastropods that was used in the taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Ponder & Lindberg, 1997). It contained the only extant family Peltospiridae (and some prehistoric gastropod families). However, the taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005) does not use the name Peltospiroidea (in that system, the family Peltopiridae is placed within the Neomphaloidea). The GenBank sequence database is an open access, annotated collection of all publicly available nucleotide sequences and their protein translations.
