Leon Sylvers III
Leon Frank Sylvers III (born March 7, 1953, Memphis, Tennessee) is an American singer, songwriter, disc-jockey, record producer and multi-instrumentalist. He was a member of the family group The Sylvers and became one of the most successful producers in black music in the late 1970s to the mid-1980s through his association with Dick Griffey's SOLAR Records. Artists such as J Dilla, Dr. Dre, and Madlib have sampled songs written and produced by him. Biography Beginnings Leon Sylvers and his family moved from Memphis to Los Angeles, "near Adams and Crenshaw," in 1956. He first rose to prominence in the early 1960s as a member of The Little Angels harmony vocal group featuring his siblings (Olympia, Charmaine, and James). Howard Hewett Jr. (born October 1, 1955) is an American singer–songwriter. Hewett rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the group Shalamar. In 1985, he left the group to pursue his solo career, but he later returned to the group in 2001. He signed with Elektra Records. In 1986, he released his debut solo album '' I Commit to Love''. Hewett and his group Shalamar contributed material to the ''Beverly Hills Cop'' soundtrack. The soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media in 1986. Forever Yours (The Sylvers Album)
''Forever Yours'' is the seventh album by the Los Angeles, California-based R&B group the Sylvers. Originally recorded when the Sylvers were still signed to Capitol Records, big brother Leon took over on production. Capitol did not like the new sound and rejected the album and dropped them. The Sylvers shopped the material elsewhere and by mid-1978 had signed with Casablanca Records. This would be their most critically acclaimed album, it would also be the last album Leon would be involved with for the family until 1981's album ''Concept'' as he would leave to become in-house producer for Dick Griffey's SOLAR Records. Two singles were released. "Don't Stop, Get Off" charted in late 1978 at number 15 on the US R&B charts. "Forever Yours" was the second single released in 1979 and didn't chart at all due to management shake-ups at Casablanca, even though it was sent to both pop and R&B radio stations. ''Face the Music'' is the fifth studio album by American boyband New Kids on the Block, released on January 25, 1994. The album debuted at number 37 on the ''Billboard'' 200 in the United States, with first-week sales of 27,000 copies. ''Blackstreet'' is the debut studio album from American R&B group Blackstreet, released in 1994 on Interscope Records. The group was formed by Riley with Chauncey Hannibal after the dissolution of Teddy Riley's former group Guy. The other members of Blackstreet - Joseph Stonestreet and Levi Little - were session singers alongside Hannibal on Bobby Brown's third album ''Bobby'', an album that was mostly produced by Riley.
