Lemnos Football Club
The Shepparton Swans Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Shepparton in northern Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Goulburn Valley League. History The Shepparton Swans were originally known as the "Lemnos Football Club", named after the Greek island of the same name where some local Shepparton men were posted during World War I (the local area, originally known as 'Thomas Estate No. 5', became known as that from then on) and played in black and yellow jumpers. The club would play in the Goulburn Valley Second Eighteens Football Association from its establishment in 1928 to 1936. The association's name was changed to the Goulburn Valley Football Association (GVFA) at the 1937 AGM (winning three premierships in this time: 1937, 1938, and 1940). Shepparton () ( Yortayorta: ''Kanny-goopna'') is a city located on the floodplain of the Goulburn River in northern Victoria, Australia, approximately north-northeast of Melbourne. As of the 2021 census, the estimated population of Shepparton, including the adjacent town of Mooroopna, was 68,409. It began as a sheep station and river crossing in the mid-19th century, before undergoing a major transformation as a railway town. The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It includes teams from clubs based in the eastern states of Australia: Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and includes reserves teams for the east coast AFL clubs. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and it has been known by its current name since 1996. Paul Bell (footballer)
Alfred William Paul Bell (12 April 1914 – 4 July 1945) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League. He returned to Shepparton in 1938, and coached his home team. He was killed in action in World War II. Family The son of John Thomas Bell (1880–1943), and Ada Barbara Bell (1878–1938), née Wilson, Alfred William Paul Bell was born at Shepparton on 12 April 1914. He married Beatrice "Rannie" Alcorn (born 1915 – died ?) on 16 September 1937. They had two daughters, Beverley, and Judith. Education He attended Shepparton High School; as did his wife. Deakin Reserve is a cricket ground in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia. The first recorded match held on the ground came in 1962 when Victoria Country played the Marylebone Cricket Club. A Youth Test match was held in December 1986 when Australia Under-19s played Indian Under-19s. A Youth One Day International was later held there in November 1997 when Australia Under-19s played Pakistan Under-19s. The Kyabram Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Bombers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Kyabram, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL). Kyabram was a foundation club in the Goulburn Valley Football League (GVFL) and has been one of the most dominant. Only the Shepparton Football Club have won more premierships. The club had a successful era the 1920s, when they won five GVFL premierships, including the Kyabram Reserves winning the senior football premiership in the Northern Goulburn Football Association in 1929. The club has produced many VFL/AFL footballers, including Ross Dillon, Garry Lyon and Brett Deledio. The Rushworth Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the town of Rushworth, Victoria, Australia. The club is one of 12 member clubs in the Kyabram & District Football League and are known as the 'Tigers'. They wear a black jumper with horizontal gold stripe. History The old gold-mining town of Rushworth was established during the 1850s and grew rapidly. At its peak during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries there were no fewer than twenty-six working mines in the locality supporting a floating population that on occasion was reckoned to number as many as 40,000 inhabitants. The Goulburn Valley Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball competition based in the Goulburn Valley region of Victoria, Australia. It is a member of the Victorian Country Football League and has won the Victorian Country Football Championships in 2003 and 2005. History The league was initially called the Goulburn Valley District Football Association(GVDFA) and dates back to May, 1893. Clubs from the townships of Kyabram, Mooroopna, Nagambie, Nathalia, Numurkah, Shepparton, Shepparton Ramblers, Tatura, Undera and Wunghnu were present at the inaugural meeting.
