The legislative districts of Zamboanga del Sur are the representations of the province of Zamboanga del Sur in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The province is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its first and second congressional districts. History Prior to gaining separate representation, areas now under the jurisdiction of Zamboanga del Sur were represented under the Department of Mindanao and Sulu (1917–1935) and the historical Zamboanga Province (1935–1953). The enactment of Republic Act No. 711 on June 6, 1952 divided the old Zamboanga Province into Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur and provided them each with a congressional representative. Per Section 7 of Republic Act No. 711, the chartered cities of Zamboanga and Basilan formed part of Zamboanga del Sur's representation. Josefina, officially the Municipality of Josefina ( ceb, Lungsod sa Josefina; Subanen: ''Benwa Josefina''; Chavacano: ''Municipalidad de Josefina''; tl, Bayan ng Josefina), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. Dumingag, officially the Municipality of Dumingag ( ceb, Lungsod sa Dumingag; Subanen: ''Benwa Dumingag''; Chavacano: ''Municipalidad de Dumingag''; tl, Bayan ng Dumingag), is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 48,881 people. Etymology Local stories said it is named after a noted Subanen chieftain, "''Dumi''" and his wife, "''Ingag''". Another supposed origin of the name tells about the native fellow who was asked by a government agent as to what the name of the place was while watching a cockfight. After the game was over, the stranger inquired about the name of the place. The native curtly replied: "''Duminag!''" meaning "I won". The government agent misheard the word.
