Legislative Districts Of Occidental Mindoro
The legislative districts of Occidental Mindoro are the representations of the province of Occidental Mindoro in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The province is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its lone congressional district. History Prior to gaining separate representation, areas now under the jurisdiction of Occidental Mindoro were represented under the lone district of the undivided Mindoro Province from 1898 to 1951. The enactment of Republic Act No. 505 on June 13, 1950 split the old Mindoro Province into Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro, and provided each of them separate representation in Congress. In the Philippines, provinces ( fil, lalawigan) are one of its primary political and administrative divisions. There are 82 provinces at present, which are further subdivided into component cities and municipalities. The local government units in the National Capital Region, as well as independent cities, are independent of any provincial government. Each province is governed by an elected legislature called the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and an elected governor. The provinces are grouped into seventeen regions based on geographical, cultural, and ethnological characteristics. Legislative District Of Mindoro
The legislative district of Mindoro was the representation of the historical province of Mindoro in the various national legislatures of the Philippines until 1951. The undivided province's representation encompassed the present-day provinces of Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro. History Mindoro initially comprised a lone district for the purposes of electing representatives to the First Philippine Assembly in 1907. When seats for the upper house of the Philippine Legislature were elected from territory-based districts between 1916 and 1935, the province formed part of the fifthsenatorial district which elected two out of the 24-member Senate. Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (; abbreviated as PDDS) is a national political party in the Philippines accredited by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on October 30, 2018. It was founded by Presidential Anti-Corruption (PACC) Chairman Greco Belgica. Occidental Mindoro's At-large Congressional District
Occidental Mindoro's at-large congressional district is the sole congressional district of the Philippines in the province of Occidental Mindoro. Also known as Occidental Mindoro's lone district, it has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1952. It first elected a representative provincewide at-large for the 2nd Congress of the Third Philippine Republic following the dissolution of the old Mindoro province under Republic Act No. 505 on June 13, 1950. It has remained a single-member district even under the Fourth Philippine Republic parliament known as the Regular Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986. Occidental Mindoro Provincial Board
The Occidental Mindoro Provincial Board is the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial legislature) of the Philippine province of Occidental Mindoro. The members are elected via plurality-at-large voting: the province is divided into two districts, each having five seats. A voter votes up to five names, with the top five candidates per district being elected. The vice governor is the ''ex officio'' presiding officer, and only votes to break ties. 1984 Philippine Parliamentary Election
A parliamentary election was held on May 14, 1984 in the Philippines. Like past elections, charges of bribery, protests and complaints on irregularities marred the elections. Former ''Manila Times'' publisher Chino Roces and former senator and opposition leader Jose W. Diokno supported the campaign boycotting the election. The National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) helped mitigate electoral fraud during the election. The ruling Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) retained a majority in parliament, but the opposition United Nationalist Democratic Organization (UNIDO) made massive gains, winning 60 seats and reducing the KBL's majority to 114 compared to the 150 they had in 1978.
