Legal Information For Families Today
Family Legal Care (formerly Legal Information for Families Today) is a non-profit organization that provides legal information and advice to unrepresented litigants so that they can successfully self-advocate in New York State Family Courts. Family Legal Care was launched in 1996, when three lawyers established "go-to" locations in New York City's Family Courts that provided on-the-spot help and legal information for vulnerable families struggling to make their way through the City's complex Family Court system. Family courts were originally created to be a Court of Equity convened to decide matters and make orders in relation to family law, including custody of children, and could disregard certain legal requirements as long as the petitioner/plaintiff came into court with “clean hands” and the request was reasonable, “quantum meruit”. The New York Foundation
The New York Foundation is a charitable foundation which gives grants to non-profit organizations supporting community organizing and advocacy in New York City. History 1909–1919 The New York Foundation was established in 1909 when Louis A. Heinsheimer, a partner in banking firm Kuhn, Loeb & Co., died. In his will Heinsheimer bequeathed $1 million to "the Jewish charities of New York" under the condition that they choose to federate within a year of his death.
