Several members of ''Lebeckia'' were recently transferred to other genera (''Calobota'' and '' Wiborgiella''). Members of ''Lebeckia'' are known to produce pyrrolizidine alkaloids, including ammodendrine, lebeckianine, and lupanine. The genus was named by Carl Thunberg for his student Heinrich Julius Lebeck.
