Lebanese Academy Of Sciences
The Lebanese Academy of Sciences, known officially by its French name Académie des Sciences du Liban (ASL), is a learned society dedicated to promoting the growth, invigoration, and dissemination of the sciences in Lebanon, and to fostering a world-class scientific culture in the country. The ASL was recognized by a decreeAl-Jarida Al-Rasmiya (The Official Journal of the Lebanese Republic) Issue No. 52, August 31, 2007. June Nasrallah
June Nasrallah is Barbara McClintock Professor in thPlant Biology Sectionof thSchool of Integrative Plant Scienceat Cornell University. Her research focuses on plant reproductive biology and the cell-cell interactions that underlie self-incompatibility in plants belonging to the mustard (Brassicaceae) family. She was elected to the US National Academy of Sciences in 2003 for this work and her contributions generally to our understanding of receptor-based signalling in plants. Makhluf Haddadin
Makhluf J. Haddadin (1935 – September 21, 2022) was a Jordanian chemistry professor at the American University of Beirut. Biography Haddadin was born in Ma'in, Jordan in 1935. He won a full scholarship from the Jordanian Ministry of Education, to study chemistry at the American University of Beirut from which he graduated with a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. under the direction of Costas H. Issidorides. He then left for the University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado, USA where he received a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry under the direction of Alfred Hassner. Huda Zoghbi
Huda Yahya Zoghbi (Arabic: هدى الهبري الزغبي ''Hudā al-Hibrī az-Zughbī''; born 1954), born Huda El-Hibri, is a Lebanese-born American geneticist, and a professor at the Departments of Molecular and Human Genetics, Neuroscience and Neurology at the Baylor College of Medicine. She is the director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute. She became the editor of the ''Annual Review of Neuroscience'' as of 2018. Her work helped elucidate the genes and genetic mechanisms responsible for a number of devastating neurological disorders, such as Rett syndrome and Spinocerebellar ataxia type 1. Zoghbi's discoveries have provided new ways of thinking about other neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, autism and intellectual disability, which could lead to new therapeutics and better, more efficient treatments. Mona Nemer, (born 1957) is a Lebanese-Canadian scientist specializing in molecular genetics and cardiac regeneration. She was formerly a professor of pharmacology at the University of Montreal and the Director of the Cardiac Development Research Unit at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM) where she held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Cardiovascular Cell Differentiation.
