Leaving The Table
''Leaving the Table'' (), also known as ''Dinner Party at the Morescos (), is a 1906 oil-on-canvas group portrait painting by Laurits Tuxen depicting a dinner party in Danish businessman Jacob Heinrich Moresco's home north of Copenhagen. The painting was a gift to Moresco on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his firm. Many of the 45 people seen in the painting are well-known businessmen, politicians or other peers of the time. Background On 16 April 1856, Jacob Heinrich Moresco opened a store with women's clothing and fashion accessories at Amagertorv 13. His firm would later develop into the first large-scale industrial manufacturer of women's clothing in Denmark. Moresco is one of the businessmen depicted on Peder Severin Krøyer's monumental 1895 group portrait painting ''From Copenhagen Stock Exchange'' in Børsen. Laurits Tuxen
Laurits Regner Tuxen (9 December 1853 – 21 November 1927) was a Danish painter and sculptor specialising in figure painting. He was also associated with the Skagen Painters. He was the first head of Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler, an art school established in the 1880s to provide an alternative to the education offered by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Biography Lauritz Regner Tuxen grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the son of Nicolai Elias Tuxen (1810–1891) and Bertha Laura Giødvad (1815–1908). His father was a naval officer and director of the Danish naval shipyard (''Orlogsværftet''). The still life-and flowerpainter Nicoline Tuxen (1847–1931) was his older sister. From 1868 to 1872, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Art together with Peder Severin Krøyer (1851–1909). TV2 (Denmark)
TV 2 (''TV to'') is a Danish government-owned broadcast and subscription television station in Denmark based in Odense, Funen. History Since 1949, Danmarks Radio had been the sole provider of television in Denmark. Wanting to end the monopoly, the Danish Parliament voted on 30 May 1986, to create TV2, as a second choice for public service television. Upon its establishment, it had first begun its experimental test transmissions, and then, two years later, it had therefore commenced its official broadcast on 1 October 1988, with its first program being ''Danish Symphony'' which is broadcast at 17:00, followed by the news at 19:30. Subscription and overseas availability From 1 November 2009, all Danish television broadcasting became digital with DVB-T and MPEG4 standard. Christian Hasselbalch
Christian Hasselbalch (27 February 1851 – 7 August 1925) was a Danish industrialist and merchant. He founded Hasselbalch & Co. Early life Christian Hasselbalch was born into a family of merchants in Randers. His parents were merchant Steen Hasselbach (1820–1861) and Caroline Margrethe Hasselbach née Hoge (1826–1893). He attended Randers Lærde Skole until 1865 and then apprenticed as a textile merchant in Århus. He later became a retail clerk at Vett & Wessel's new branch in Horsens until he was appointed as manager of the company's Nakskov branch in 1876. Hasselbalch & Co. In 1892, Hasselbalch was licensed as a merchant in Copenhagen and started his own business. In 1889, he became the first manufacturer of curtains in Denmark. The company was based at first in rented rooms at Peter Bangs Vej with just one loom, but he later acquired Lyngby Søndre Mølle in Kongens Lyngby and opened a new factory at the site in 1892. Peter Adler Alberti
Peter Adler Alberti (10 June 1851, in Copenhagen – 14 June 1932, in Copenhagen) was a Danish politician and swindler, known for the Alberti scandal of 1908. Family life On 6 October 1876 in the Church of Holmen the 25-year-old barrister (overretssagfører) Alberti married the five years younger Eugenia née Møller. They divorced and on 14 June 1906 in the Church of Our Lady (Copenhagen) he married the eleven years younger Anna Victoria Bendix née Sundberg, residing at Ny Vestergade 17-2. They also divorced. On 1 November 1906 Alberti moved from Ny Vestergade to Sankt Annæ Plads 9-1 where he resided until his arrest. On 20 August 1917 after his release from the State Prison in Vridsløselille he moved to Fælledvej 10 on Nørrebro. Six months later he moved to Gammel Kongevej 141-2 and in 1921 he resided there as a lodger with a small family, where the daughter was a clerk in the ministry of Finance. Emil Vett
Emil Vett (7 November 1843 – 18 February 1911) was a Danish businessman who was a co-founder of Magasin du Nord. Early life and education Vatt was born on 7 November 1843 in Rødby on Lolland, the son of medical doctor Julius Theodor Emil Vett (1808–1869) and Karen Petrine Bjørn (1813–1881). At the age of 14, he became an apprentice in C. B. Christensen's textile shop in Aarhus. He worked in the shop for a total of nine years and ended up heading it for around a year after the owner had fallen ill. After C. B. Christensen's death, Vett worked briefly in Emil Secher's fashion shop. Career In 1868 Vett established Emil Vett & Co. in a partnership with Th. Wessel. was a Danish and Norwegian title, which was conferred by the king until 1909 and entailed a third-class rank in the order of precedence, and thus the right to enroll one's daughters in Gisselfeld Convent and Vemmetofte Convent. It was awarded to civil servants and some business people. Although literally meaning 'councilor of state', the title was purely honorary. The title could also be obtained by depositing a sum of money in the king's coffers.
