Leader Of The Republican People's Party
The Leader of the Republican People's Party () is the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), the main opposition party in Turkey. Özgür Özel has been the leader since 8 November 2023, succeeding Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. The CHP leader is elected by a majority vote during a convention of the CHP. Özgür Özel
Özgür Özel () (born 21 September 1974) is a Turkish pharmacist and politician who has served as Leader of the Republican People's Party, leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) since 2023. He had previously shared the parliamentary group leader, parliamentary deputy group leadership of the CHP with Engin Altay and Levent Gök between 2015 and 2023. Özel has been an MP for the Electoral districts of Turkey, electoral district of Manisa (electoral district), Manisa since the 2011 Turkish general election, 2011 general election and is well known for his activism concerning the rights of miners in Manisa Province.
