Leader Of The Opposition (Dominica)
The Leader of the Opposition'' of the Commonwealth of Dominica is the Member of Parliament who leads the Official Opposition in the House of Assembly of Dominica. The current Leader of the Opposition is Jesma Paul, an independent candidate of the Salisbury constituency, who was sworn in on December 20 2022. The position was previously held by Lennox Linton. Provision Chapter IV Section 66 of The Constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica states: The House of Assembly did not have a Leader of the Opposition in early 2010, following the results of the 2009 general election. The leader of the opposition United Workers' Party, Ronald Green, lost his seat, and the three UWP Representatives elected boycotted the House of Assembly.. Matthew Nathaniel Joseph (born 30 September 1972) is a former professional footballer who played as a defender. He has been a member of the Barbados national team. Career Joseph was born in the Bethnal Green area of London to West Indian parents. Earl Michael Williams (born February 28, 1964) is a Dominican politician who was Leader of the Opposition in Dominica and political Leader of the United Workers' Party from 2007 to 2008. Early life and career Williams was educated at the Salisbury Government School and the Community High School. He completed his A-Levels at the Sixth Form College. Williams then served as a teacher at various schools on the island and participated in sports as a coach and player. Roosevelt Bernard "Rosie" Douglas (15 October 1941 – 1 October 2000) was a politician and human rights activist from Dominica. He served as Prime Minister of Dominica from February 2000 until his death in office eight months later. Sir Brian George Keith Alleyne, KC (born 28 April 1943) is a Dominican jurist, politician and judge. Early life He was the son of Keith Alleyne, the onetime attorney general of the Windward Islands and Attorney General of Grenada who was murdered in 1974. Alleyne served for 16 years in the House of Assembly of Dominica and in various capacities within the Dominican government under Eugenia Charles. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 1995. He also served as Queen's Counsel and as Attorney General of the Windward Islands. Edison Chenfil James (born October 18, 1943, in Marigot) is a Dominican politician who was the prime minister of Dominica from June 14, 1995, to February 3, 2000, as well as the member of parliament for the Marigot constituency from 1990. He graduated from the Dominica Grammar School. Michael Douglas (politician)
Michael Douglas (1940 – 30 April 1992) was a politician from Dominica. He served as Member of Parliament for the Portsmouth constituency since 1975 and as well as a cabinet minister for a number of years, including as Minister of Finance from 1979 to 1980.
