''Le Miracle des loups'' ( en, The Miracle of the Wolves) is a French historical drama film from 1924, directed by Raymond Bernard, written by André-Paul Antoine, starring Jean-Emile Vanni-Marcoux. The scenario was based on a novel of Henry Dupuis-Mazuel "Le miracle des loups", published in 1924. Numerous scenes were filmed at the Cité de Carcassonne with thousands of participants. It was also filmed in Château de Pierrefonds, Col de Porte, Isère, Le Sappey-en-Chartreuse, and in studio. Raymond Bernard was a director, screenwriter, and actor. It was a debut for Marie Glory (uncredited). Plot The narrative takes place in the 15th century, when Louis XI was at odds with Charles of Burgundy. Raymond Bernard
Raymond Bernard (10 October 1891 – 12 December 1977) was a French film director and screenwriter whose career spanned more than 40 years. He is best remembered for several large-scale historical productions, including the silent films '' Le Miracle des loups'' (''The Miracle of the Wolves'') and '' Le Joueur d'échecs'' (''The Chess Player'') and in the 1930s '' Les Croix de bois'' (''Wooden Crosses'') and a highly regarded adaptation of ''Les Misérables''. Biography Raymond Bernard was born in Paris in 1891, the son of the author and humorist Tristan Bernard and younger brother of the playwright Jean-Jacques Bernard. He began his career as an actor appearing on stage in plays written by his father, including ''Jeanne Doré'' (1913) alongside Sarah Bernhardt (also filmed in 1916). Jeanne Hachette
Jeanne Laisné (born circa 1454 ?) was a French heroine known as Jeanne Fourquet and nicknamed Jeanne Hachette ('Joan the Hatchet'). She was the daughter of a peasant. She is currently known for an act of heroism on 27 June 1472, when she prevented the capture of Beauvais by the troops of Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy. The town was defended by only 300 men-at-arms, commanded by Louis de Balagny. The Burgundians were making an assault, and one of their number had planted a flag upon the battlements, when Jeanne, axe in hand, flung herself upon him, hurled him into the moat, tore down the flag, and revived the drooping courage of the garrison. In gratitude for this heroic deed, Louis XI instituted a procession in Beauvais called the "Procession of the Assault", and married Jeanne to her chosen lover Colin Pilon, loading them with favours. Romuald Charles Eugène Gaudens Jean Sylve Joubé (20 June 1876 – 14 September 1949) was a French stage and film actor whose career on the stage and in films lasted approximately thirty years. Career Born in Mazères, Ariège, Romuald Joubé began his stage career at the Odéon theatre under the direction of André Antoine. He was in residence at the Comédie Française from 1921 to 1922. Joubé's career was spent primarily on the theatre stage. However, he managed a lengthy film career as well, beginning in 1909. André Hunebelle (1 September 1896 – 27 November 1985) was a French maître verrier (master glassmaker) and film director. Master Glass Artist After attending polytechnic school for mathematics, he became a decorator, a designer, and then a master glass maker in the mid-1920s (first recorded exhibition PARIS 1927 included piece "Fruit & Foliage"). His work is known for its clean lines, which are elegant and singularly strong. He exhibited his own glass in a luxurious store located at 2 Avenue Victor-Emmanuel III, at the roundabout of the Champs Èlysées in Paris. Etienne Franckhauser, who also made molds for Lalique and Sabino, made the molds for Hunebelle's glass which was fabricated by the crystal factory in Choisy-le-Roi, France.
