Laurie Anne Hill Rozenel (born 11 February 1970) is a retired footballer who played as a midfielder. Born in the United States, she represented the Mexico women's national team. Early life and education Hill was born on February 11, 1970, in Los Angeles, California, and was raised in the same area. Her mother was born in Mexico City, Mexico to American parents. Hill attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and was a student-athlete on the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos women's soccer team. Hill became UC Santa Barbara's career leader in minutes played (6,422) and was named a three-time All American from 1989 through 1991. Following her UCSB career, she was inducted into the UC Santa Barbara Athletics Hall of Fame. Club career Hill played for the Southern California Nitemares as a teenager. The Philadelphia Charge was an American women's professional soccer team that played in the Women's United Soccer Association. The team played at Villanova Stadium on the campus of Villanova University near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. History In spring of 2000, the newly formed Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) announced eight cities were granted franchises to start the league, including Philadelphia. Most of the inaugural teams were owned by major media companies, with the new Philadelphia club operated by locally headquartered Comcast Corporation who invested an initial $5 million into WUSA. California Storm is an American women's soccer team, founded in 1995 as the Sacramento Storm, dropping the city name in favor of California the following season. The team is a member of the Women's Premier Soccer League, the second tier of women's soccer in the United States. The team plays in the North Division of the Pacific Conference. The team was a founding member of the W-League, then left in 1998 to become one of the founding teams of the WPSL. The team plays its home games in the stadium of Davis Legacy Sports Complex in Sacramento, California. The club's colors are white and navy blue. The 1995 USWISL, also known as the 1995 Nike W League for sponsorship reasons, was the inaugural season of the United States Women's Interregional Soccer League (USWISL), which later became the USL W-League. Operated by the USISL, it was the highest division of women's soccer in the United States at the time. The Long Island Lady Riders were crowned champions after defeating the Southern California Nitemares in the Championship game. The USL W-League was a North American amateur women's soccer developmental organization. The league was a semi-professional, open league, giving college players the opportunity to play alongside established international players while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.
