Laura De Witte
Laura de Witte (born 7 August 1995) is a Dutch sprinter who specializes in the 400 metres. She won the bronze medal in the event at the 2017 European Athletics Under-23 Championships. De Witte earned gold in the women's 4 x 400 m relay at the 2022 European Championships, competing in the heats. She competed in the 200 metres at the 2016 European Championships. Leek, Netherlands
Leek (; gos, De Laik; fy, De Like) is a village and former municipality in Groningen province in the northeastern Netherlands. The municipality, which bordered the Drenthe and Friesland provinces, was merged into the municipality of Westerkwartier on 1 January 2019. The village of Leek is approximately 20 km west of Groningen (city) on the A7 ( E22) highway. The village grew around a fortification that was constructed here during the Eighty Years' War with Spain. The name 'Leek' was derived from a brook, the "Leke". Lisanne de Witte (born 10 September 1992) is a Dutch sprinter who specialises in the 400 metres. She won bronze medals in this event at the 2018 European Championships and 2019 European Indoor Championships, and took several medals as part of the Dutch 4 × 400 m relays. De Witte competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro on the Dutch 4 × 400 m relay team who ran a national record of 3:26.98. She also competed in the 400 metres event at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She ran a personal best of 52.61 s in the series and came in third in the semifinals, but was excluded from the finals after the US team argued that she had impeded Joanna Atkins, who came in fourth behind her. At the 2018 European Championships she won the bronze medal. Her younger sister, Laura de Witte, is also a 400 metres sprinter. 2016 European Athletics Championships
The 2016 European Athletics Championships was held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, between 6 and 10 July 2016. It was the first time the Netherlands hosted the event. Due to 2016 being an Olympic year, there was no racewalking and the marathon competition was replaced by half marathon. The Russian team did not participate due to the suspension of the All-Russia Athletic Federation by the International Association of Athletics Federations. However, Yuliya Stepanova was individually cleared by the IAAF to compete as an independent athlete; she participated in the European championships under the flag of the European Athletic Association.
