Laughing At Life
''Laughing at Life'' is a 1933 American pre-Code film directed by Ford Beebe. Plot summary Easter, a soldier of fortune and gunrunner, leaves his family behind escaping from the authorities and an American detective named Mason. His globe-hopping escape leads him finally to South America, where he is hired to organize a band of revolutionaries, unaware that they plan to eliminate him when his job is done. Ford Beebe
Ford Beebe (November 26, 1888 – November 26, 1978) was a screenwriter and Film director, director. He entered the film business as a writer around 1916 and over the next 60 years wrote and/or directed almost 200 films. He specialized in B-movies – mostly Westerns – and action serials, working on the "Buck Rogers" and "Flash Gordon" serials for Universal Pictures. Life Ford Beebe was born on November 26, 1888, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Before moving to Hollywood, Los Angeles, Hollywood he was a freelance writer who was also experienced in advertising. He arrived in Hollywood in 1916 and began working as a writer for Western films. His first credit was as scenario writer for the 1916 film ''A Youth of Fortune''. William Desmond (actor)
William Desmond (born William Mannion; January 23, 1878 – November 3, 1949) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 200 films between 1915 and 1948. He was nicknamed "The King of the Silent Serials." Born William Mannion in Horseheads, New York, he was raised in New York City. He later changed his surname to a stage name. He started out in vaudeville and the legitimate stage before making his film debut. In 1919, he married his co-star Mary McIvor, with whom he had two daughters. On November 3, 1949, Desmond died at age 71 of a heart attack in Los Angeles, California. He is interred at the Chapel of the Pines Crematory, Los Angeles. Arthur Hoyt (March 19, 1874 – January 4, 1953) was an American film character actor who appeared in more than 275 films in his 34-year film career, about a third of them silent films. Career Born in Georgetown, Colorado, in 1874, Hoyt made his Broadway debut in 1905 in ''The Prince Consort''. He also appeared in Ferenc Molnár's ''The Devil'' in 1908, and made his final Broadway appearance in ''The Great Name'' in 1911. Otis Harlan
Otis Harlan (December 29, 1865 – January 21, 1940) was an American actor and comedian. He voiced Happy, one of the Seven Dwarfs in the Disney animated film ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''. Early years Harlan was born in Zanesville, Ohio in 1865. He married Nellie Harvey and had a daughter named Marion. Harlan was the uncle of the silent film era leading man, Kenneth Harlan. Career In 1893, he appeared in Victor Herbert's ''The Magic Knight''. He was playing in vaudeville shows by 1911, appearing in Irving Berlin's ragtime musicals. Henry Armetta (born Enrico Armetta; July 4, 1888 – October 21, 1945) was an American character actor who appeared in at least 150 American films, beginning in silent movies. His last film was released posthumously in 1946, the year after his death. Biography Armetta was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. At the age of 14, he stowed away on a boat to America. The immigration authorities were prepared to send him back, but he found an Italian family to act as his sponsor. He settled in New York City where he delivered groceries, sold sandwiches and pizzas and performed other menial tasks to get by.
