Late Call (TV Programme)
''Late Call'' was Scottish Television's version of ''The Epilogue'', presenting five minutes of religious thought late at night. Launched in 1960, it was generally, but not always, the final programme of the day's transmission. It continued to be broadcast after Scottish Television began 24-hour transmission. The programme ended in 1989. Scottish Television (now, legally, known as STV Central Limited) is the ITV network franchisee for Central Scotland. The channel — the largest of the three ITV franchises in Scotland — has been in operation since 31 August 1957 and is the second-oldest franchise holder in the UK that is still active (the oldest being Granada Television). The Epilogue
''The Epilogue'' was a feature of BBC radio and later television being the last programme broadcast each Sunday evening lasting five to ten minutes and being based on a non-denominational reflective theme usually delivered by a Christian minister or priest in a straight to-camera talk. In British television terminology, an "epilogue" is an equivalent of the American sermonette. Later the format was adopted by the independent television broadcaster ITV and its franchises including Scottish Television and Southern Television. ''The Epilogue'' was first broadcast on BBC Radio on Sunday 26 September 1926. Originally the programme consisted of themed Bible readings but later hymns were added for listeners at home to join in with. Rikki Fulton
Robert Kerr "Rikki" Fulton, OBE (15 April 1924 – 27 January 2004) was a Scottish comedian and actor best remembered for writing and performing in the long-running BBC Scotland sketch show, ''Scotch and Wry''. He was also known for his appearances as one half of the double act, '' Francie and Josie'', alongside Jack Milroy. Suffering from Alzheimer's disease in his later years, Fulton died in 2004, aged 79. Biography Early life The youngest of three brothers, Robert Kerr Fulton was born into a non-theatrical family at 46 Appin Road, Dennistoun, Glasgow. Fulton's mother, who was 40 at the time of his birth, developed severe postnatal depression. Due to this, Fulton grew up a "solitary child" and developed a "voracious reading habit" throughout his childhood. His father was a master locksmith who changed trades, purchasing a newsagent and stationery shop at 28 Roebank Street, Dennistoun.
