Laško
Laško (; german: Tüffer) is a spa town in eastern Slovenia. It is the seat of the Municipality of Laško. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. The municipality is now included in the Savinja Statistical Region. The town is located at the foothills of Hum Hill on the Savinja River. It was first mentioned in written documents dating to 1227 and was granted town privileges in 1927. It is known to have been settled since the Iron Age and Roman archaeological finds are common in the area, though the precise location of the Roman settlement is not known. Today the town is best known for its annual Festival of Beer & Flowers (''Pivo - Cvetje'') and the local Laško Brewery, the largest brewery in the country. In 2010, Laško was heavily affected by flooding. The town's coat of arms depicts three white fleurs-de-lis on a blue field. Léo Lasko (1885–1949) was a German screenwriter and film director of the silent and early sound eras. As Lasko was of Jewish descent he was classified as a "non- Aryan" by the Nazis. Michał Eryk Łasko (born 11 March 1981) is an Italian former volleyball player of Polish descent, member of the Italy men's national volleyball team, bronze medallist at the Olympic Games (London 2012), 2005 European Champion, 2001 Italian Champion. Melissa Lasko-Gross (known professionally as Miss Lasko-Gross) is an American comics creator, known for her semi-autobiographical graphic novels ''Escape from "Special"'' and ''A Mess of Everything''. Early life Melissa Lasko was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1977. She grew up reading comics, with her favorite ones ranging from ''Fantastic Four'' to ''Love and Rockets (comics), Love and Rockets''. Peter Erik Lasko (5 March 1924 – 18 May 2003) was a British art historian, Professor of Visual Art at the University of East Anglia, from 1965 to 1974, Director of the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, from 1974–85 and a Fellow of the British Academy. Life Lasko was born and grew up in Berlin, where his father Leo Lasko worked in the film industry as a director and screenwriter. The family moved to England in 1936. He attended Saint Martin's School of Art but soon switched to art history, firstly studying at Birbeck College under Nikolaus Pevsner, then at the Courtauld Institute of Art from 1946 to 1949. In 1950 he became assistant keeper in the Department of British and Medieval Antiquities at the British Museum, where he remained for 15 years.
