Larkspur station is a Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) station in Larkspur, California. The terminal station opened to revenue service on December 14, 2019. It is located from the Larkspur Landing ferry terminal, across Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. History The rail corridor was established by the North Pacific Coast Railroad, and a nearby stop called Greenbrae was served by Northwestern Pacific Railroad interurban lines, Northwestern Pacific Railroad interurban cars between 1903 and 1941. The land for the station was acquired in 1983 by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District. Initially part of the original plan for system's full buildout, its opening was delayed to a later date as the line's construction was split into phases. Until the line was extended, shuttle bus service connected the Larkspur Terminal with San Rafael Transit Center. Test trains on the extension began running on August 23, 2019. Larkspur is a city in Marin County, California, United States. Larkspur is located south of San Rafael, at an elevation of . As of the 2020 Census, the city's population was 13,064. Larkspur's Police Department is shared with that of the neighboring Corte Madera and town of San Anselmo as the Central Marin Police Authority. North Pacific Coast Railroad
The North Pacific Coast Railroad (NPC) was a common carrier narrow-gauge steam railroad begun in 1874 and sold in 1902 to new owners who renamed it the North Shore Railroad (California) (NSR) and which rebuilt the southern section into a standard-gauge electric railway. The NPC operated in the northern California counties of Marin and Sonoma that carried redwood lumber, local dairy and agricultural products, express and passengers. The NPC operated almost of track that extended from a pier at Sausalito (which connected the line via ferry to San Francisco) and operated northwest to Duncans Mills and Cazadero (also known as Ingrams). Northwestern Pacific Railroad Interurban Lines
The Northwestern Pacific Railroad (and its predecessor North Shore Railroad) operated a network of electric interurban lines in Marin County, California from 1903 to 1941. The lines ran to Sausalito at the southern tip of the county, where connecting ferries ran to San Francisco. Trains consisted of electric multiple units powered by third rail electrification. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is an approximately 43.8 mile east–west arterial road in Marin County, California, running from the trailhead for Point Reyes Lighthouse at the end of the Point Reyes Peninsula to Interstate 580 just west of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
