Laos At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Laos competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. This was the nation's sixth appearance at the Olympics, having attended every edition of the Olympiad since 1980 except the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, because of the Soviet boycott. Five Laotian athletes were selected to the team by wild card entries in archery, athletics, and swimming, without having qualified. Sprinter Chamleunesouk Ao Oudomphonh was the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. Laos has yet to win its first Olympic medal. Archery One Laotian archer qualified for the men's individual archery through a tripartite invitation. It was contested at the Athens Olympic Stadium, from August 21 to 22, by a total of 82 sprinters from 62 nations. Magnus Petersson
Magnus Petersson (born 17 June 1975 in Gothenburg) is an archer from Sweden. He is an experienced Olympian, having won a silver medal in 1996. Petersson advanced to the semifinals in archery at the 2000 Summer Olympics, but was defeated there by Vic Wunderle. In the consolation bronze medal match, he again lost, this time to Wietse van Alten. The Swedish team, of which he was a member, placed 6th. Petersson competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in men's individual archery. He won his first match, advancing to the round of 32. In the second round of elimination, he was defeated. His final rank was 23rd overall. Petersson was also a member of the 9th-place Swedish men's archery team.
