''Lanterns'' is the third studio album by Ryan Lott under the Son Lux moniker. It was released on October 29, 2013 by Joyful Noise Recordings. It peaked at number 13 on the '' Billboard'' Heatseekers Albums chart, as well as number 6 on the Vinyl Albums chart. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 75 based on 8 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Gregory Heaney of AllMusic gave the album 4 stars out of 5, calling it "an intricately assembled album of delicate harmonies and solidly crafted beats that sits at the intersection of bedroom pop and left-field production." Son Lux is an American experimental band. Originally the solo project and moniker of founding member Ryan Lott, the band's first three albums, '' At War with Walls & Mazes'', ''We Are Rising'' and ''Lanterns'', shaped the band's unique sound through post-rock and electronica influences. With the release of their fourth studio album, ''Bones'', in 2015, Rafiq Bhatia and Ian Chang joined Son Lux, transforming the project into a three-piece band. After the release of their EPs ''Stranger Forms'' and ''Remedy'', the band's fifth album, '' Brighter Wounds'', was released in February 2018. The band composed the music for 2022 science fiction action film ''Everything Everywhere All at Once''. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Noam Pikelny
Noam Pikelny (born February 27, 1981, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American banjoist. He is a member of the group Punch Brothers and was previously in Leftover Salmon as well as the John Cowan Band. Pikelny is a nine-time Grammy Award nominee, winning once in 2019 for Best Folk Album. History Pikelny started playing banjo when he was 8 years old. He took lessons at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music. In high school, he began studying with Greg Cahill of the Chicago bluegrass band The Special Consensus. Darren King
Darren Charles King (born June 25, 1982) is an American drummer and percussionist, best known for his association with the band Mutemath until his permanent departure in August 2017. He played the drums for the New Orleans-based Christian rock band Earthsuit for a short time. In concert he is often seen wearing a pair of headphones gaffer-taped to his head for foldback, something previously done by The Who drummer, Keith Moon. Peter Silberman
Peter Silberman (born March 31, 1986) is a Brooklyn-based songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist. He is best known as a member of the rock band The Antlers. In 2017 he released a solo album, ''Impermanence''. Musical career Silberman grew up in Katonah, New York and moved to New York City to attend NYU. It was around this time that Silberman started making and recording music under the name The Antlers, which began as a solo project. Kathryn L. "Kate" Davis (born February 4, 1991) is an American singer, songwriter, and bassist. Early life Davis started learning music on the violin. She moved to the Pacific Northwest in middle school and began to study the double bass. She played violin and bass in the Portland Youth Philharmonic. Nadia Sirota (born in New York) is an American viola player. Her father is Robert Sirota, a composer and conductor. Rafiq Bhatia (born 21 August 1987) is an American musician, composer, guitarist, and producer. He is the guitarist and fellow producer of the American experimental rock band Son Lux, having been a touring member prior. As a solo artist, he has recorded three solo albums ''Yes it Will'' (2012), ''Strata'' (2012), and ''Breaking English'' (2018). Rob Moose (born 1982) is an American multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, conductor, and orchestrator. He primarily plays the violin, viola, and guitar. Early life and education Moose was born in 1982. He was raised in Windsor, Connecticut and learned piano and violin at The Hartt School. Christopher Scott Thile (; born February 20, 1981) is an American mandolinist, singer, songwriter, composer, and radio personality, best known for his work in the progressive acoustic trio Nickel Creek and the acoustic folk and progressive bluegrass quintet Punch Brothers. Shara Nova (previously Worden) is the lead singer and songwriter for My Brightest Diamond. As a composer she is most recognized for her choral compositions and the baroque chamber opera "You Us We All".
