Lanre Buraimoh
Lanre Buraimoh is a Nigerian-born artist who is based in Texas, US. His "bead paintings" are exhibited internationally. Art work Buraimoh received his art training from his parents, Chief Jimoh Buraimoh and Alake Buraimoh, both celebrated contemporary artists well known in Nigeria and abroad. Lanre Buraimoh's artwork is inspired by the beadwork of the Yoruba people of West Africa, who have traditionally incorporated beads in their art forms and to decorate the crowns, shoes and walking sticks of their kings. Buraimoh's innovative pieces adapt this tradition to the more contemporary art form of "bead painting." His paintings are adorned with thousands of small, colorful glass beads that depict Yoruba objects and symbols, including drums and native drummers, masks, lizards, foxes and the Shankofa bird—a mythical bird with an egg in its mouth that is shown flying forward while looking backward. Osogbo
Osogbo (also ''Oṣogbo'', rarely ''Oshogbo'') is a city in Nigeria. It became the capital city of Osun State in 1991. Osogbo city seats the Headquarters of both Osogbo Local Government Area (situated at Oke Baale Area of the city) and Olorunda Local Government Area (situated at Igbonna Area of the city). Jimoh Buraimoh
Chief Jimoh Buraimoh (born 1943, as Jimoh Adetunji Buraimoh) is a Nigerian painter and artist. Chief Buraimoh is one of the most influential artists to emerge from the 1960s workshops conducted by Ulli Beier and Georgina Beier in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria. Since then, he has become one of the best known artists from Osogbo. Early life and education Jimoh Buraimoh was born in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, in 1943 into a Muslim branch of the royal family of the town. He attended the 1960s' workshops conducted by Ulli Beier, and was also a lighting technician in Duro Ladipo's theatre.. Career Jimoh Buraimoh's work merges western media and Yoruba style motifs. (pronounced ''SAHN''-koh-fah) is a word in the Twi language of Ghana meaning “to retrieve" (literally "go back and get"; - to return; - to go; - to fetch, to seek and take) and also refers to the Bono Adinkra symbol represented either with a stylized heart shape or by a bird with its head turned backwards while its feet face forward carrying a precious egg in its mouth.
