Land Of Kings
Land of Kings is a music and arts festival that took place at various locations throughout the London Borough of Hackney from 2009 to 2015. The festival occurred in May, with live music and interactive art across indoor and outdoor locations in Dalston. The ticket price was equal to one wristband allowing attendees access to all the participating venues, along with a map of the festival site. Origins The festival was established in 2009 by Nick Griffiths and Connie Harrison. The festival included record labels, arts organisations, and curators local to East London. Land of Kings used a mix of clubs, bars, arts venues and temporary event spaces, with the layout changing each year. The festival artwork was by Hackney-based artist Colin Henderson. Dalston
Dalston () is an area of East London, in the London Borough of Hackney. It is northeast of Charing Cross. Dalston began as a hamlet on either side of Dalston Lane, and as the area urbanised the term also came to apply to surrounding areas including Kingsland and Shacklewell, all three of which being part of the Ancient Parish of Hackney. The area has experienced a high degree of gentrification in recent years, a process accelerated by the East London line extension, now part of London Overground, and the reopening of Dalston Junction railway station, part of London's successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics. Bounds Dalston has never been an administrative unit, and partly for this reason the boundaries are not formally defined. James Yuill
James Yuill (born 1981) is an English folktronica musician from London, currently signed to the Moshi Moshi record label. Biography Yuill released his first album, ''The Vanilla Disc'', on his own Happy Biscuit Club label in 2005. After releasing his second album ''Turning Down Water for Air'' in February 2007, he was later signed by Moshi Moshi, who re-issued that album in January 2009. Slow Club
Slow Club were an English duo formed in Sheffield in 2006. The band consisted of multi-instrumentalists Charles Watson and Rebecca Lucy Taylor, with Watson contributing piano, Taylor contributing drums, and both performing guitar and vocals. The band split in 2017 following an extensive tour to support their last album, with both members moving on to solo projects. Maria Minerva
Maria Juur (born 15 March 1988), better known by her stage name Maria Minerva, is an Estonian musician and activist. Maria Minerva is the recipient of two Estonian Music Awards. Her releases have received critical acclaim from music publications such as Pitchfork Media and The Fader. One of Maria Minerva's early supporters was the influential pop critic Simon Reynolds. She was named as one of the seminal Los Angeles artists by The Guardian and appeared on Estonian World's annual "Top 12 Most Outstanding Estonian Women in the World" list. Male Bonding is an English indie/noise rock band. The group released their debut album, ''Nothing Hurts'', on 11 May 2010. History Based in London, England Male Bonding is composed of John Arthur Webb (vocals, guitar), Kevin Hendrick (vocals, bass) and Robin Silas Christian (drums). Webb and Hendrick formerly played together in the noise rock band Pre and met Christian whilst working in a record shop. Their first show was at a house party called "RAGE!" in May 2008. ''Literary Death Match'' is a reading series co-created in 2006 by Todd Zuniga, Elizabeth Koch, and Dennis DiClaudio. Each event features four readers who read their own writing for seven minutes or less, and are then critiqued by three judges (often actors, comedians, authors, musicians or dancers) in the categories of literary merit, performance and intangibles. Is Tropical are a band from London, England, with members as of 2014 including Simon Milner, Gary Barber, Dominic Apa, and Kirstie Fleck. Hatcham Social are an English indie pop band. The group first met and formed in New Cross, London in 2006 and have since released a string of singles on indie labels, followed by three studio albums. Connan Tant Hosford, better known by the stage name Connan Mockasin and sometimes credited as Connan Hosford, is a New Zealand musician, composer and record producer. Critically acclaimed and described as "a psych-funk oddball...a contrarian", Mockasin has been credited with the 21st century crossover of psychedelic and indie music, and praised for his unique and isolated approach to songwriting.
