Lancia D'Oro
The Lancia d'Oro was a men's professional golf tournament held in Italy from 1962 to 1976. It was hosted at Golf Club Biella every year except for 1974, which was hosted by Turin Golf Club, during the club's 50th anniversary year. Generally it was a limited-field invitation event but the 1972 tournament was a full-field event, and was part of what would later be recognised as the inaugural European Tour season. History The 1972 event was played from 19 to 22 October. The prize money was £10,000 with a first prize of £1,700. José María Cañizares led after each of the first three rounds with scores of 69, 70 and 75. However, after a final round 73 he was tied with Peter Townsend on 287. Cañizares won the playoff at the fifth extra hole with a birdie 3, after hitting a 4-iron to 2 feet from the hole. Magnano
Magnano is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Biella in the Italian region Piedmont, located about northeast of Turin and about south of Biella. Eamonn Darcy
Eamonn Christopher Darcy (born 7 August 1952) is an Irish professional golfer. He won four times on the European Tour and played in the Ryder Cup four times. Professional career Darcy, with a handicap of 12, turned professional at the age of 16, in 1968,.becoming an assistant at Grange Golf Club in Dublin. The following year he moved to Erewash Valley Golf Club in Derbyshire, staying until 1979. Darcy's tournament career coincided with the start of the European Tour in 1972. He first came to notice in 1974 when he was a joint runner-up in the Nigerian Open. In Europe he was tied for third place in the Portuguese Open and tied sixth in the Dunlop Masters, finishing 36th in the Order of Merit. Flory Van Donck
Flory Van Donck (23 June 1912 – 14 January 1992) was a Belgian professional golfer. Van Donck is widely regarded as the greatest ever Belgian golfer. During his career, he won more than fifty tournaments worldwide, including many of the most prestigious national opens of Europe. He also finished as runner up in The Open Championship on two occasions. Career Van Donck was born in Tervuren, Flemish Brabant. Denis Hutchinson
Denis John Hutchinson (born 14 March 1932) is a former South African professional golfer. Hutchinson was born and raised in Rhodesia but moved to South Africa as a young adult. He represented South Africa in several elite amateur events, including the Commonwealth Tournament and Eisenhower Trophy. He also had much success in professional events as an amateur, culminating with a victory at the 1959 South African Open. He turned professional shortly thereafter and played primarily in South Africa and Europe. In South Africa he won many events, including the South African Masters three times, as well as four significant tournaments in Europe. After he retired Hutchinson became a notable broadcasters, earning the label "Voice of Golf" in South Africa. Harold Henning
Harold Henning (3 October 1934 – 1 January 2004) was a South African professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Senior PGA Tour. Early life Henning was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. His brothers Allan, Brian, and Graham all became professional golfers. Professional career Nicknamed ''The Horse'', he turned pro in 1953. From 1953–1965, Henning traveled the world playing on international circuits, winning the national championships of Switzerland. South Africa, Italy, and Germany. A win with Gary Player at the 1965 Canada Cup convinced him to play on the PGA Tour. In 1966 Henning won the PGA Tour's Texas Open. Roberto Bernardini
Roberto Bernardini (born 21 January 1944) is an Italian professional golfer. He represented Italy 9 times in the World Cup between 1966 and 1975. Most of his success came in continental Europe as he won a number of tournaments in his native Italy. He also won the Swiss Open in back to back years, 1968 and 1969. Late in 1969 he won the Agfa-Gevaert Tournament, an international tournament played in West Germany. He scored 281, defeating South Africa's Graham Henning by a stroke. It was his fourth win on the European circuit that year. This excellent play helped Bernardini qualify for the Masters Tournament in 1969 and 1970. Bernardini had some success outside continental Europe, however. Fred Boobyer
Frederick Sackville Boobyer (28 January 1928 – 24 March 2009) was an English professional golfer who played on the British circuit in the 1960s. Although he never won an important 72-hole tournament, he was good enough to be selected for the Professionals against the Amateurs in 1960 and for the 6-man England team in the 1967 R.T.V. International Trophy, where he won 5 of his 6 matches and halved the other. He won the 1966 36-hole pro-am Bowmaker Tournament at Sunningdale Golf Club, scoring 30 for the last 9 holes. Dale Hayes (born 1 July 1952) is a South African professional golfer. Career outline Hayes won the 15–17 Boys category at the Junior World Golf Championships in 1969. He turned professional the following year and quickly became a successful pro. He won more than a dozen events in South Africa, leading the South African Tour Order of Merit in 1972/73 and finishing as runner up in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1979.
