The Lamar Dodd School of Art is the art school of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia, United States. History In 1927, the University of Georgia’s board of trustees voted to establish formally a chair of fine and applied arts in the college of agriculture. Prior to the formal establishment of the art department, opportunities to study craft had existed at the Normal School and the College of Agriculture. In his announcement of the new department of fine and applied arts, the president of the College of Agriculture stated that the program would include instruction “in drawing, painting, clay work, designing and art work.” Mildred Pierce Ledford (1895–1975) of Tennessee arrived in the fall of 1927 to head the new department. Arthur Spark Rosenbaum (December 6, 1938 – September 4, 2022) was an American art professor at the University of Georgia, an artist, musician, and folklorist. New Georgia Encyclopedia
The ''New Georgia Encyclopedia'' (NGE) is a web-based encyclopedia containing over 2,000 articles about the state of Georgia. It is a program of Georgia Humanities (GH), in partnership with the University of Georgia Press, the University System of Georgia/Georgia Library Learning Online (GALILEO), and the Office of the Governor. The NGE was launched in 2004. It was the first state encyclopedia to be conceived and designed exclusively for publication online. The idea for the project grew out of the 1996 joint publication of ''The New Georgia Guide'' by the Georgia Humanities Council and the University of Georgia Press. The guide, itself a spiritual successor to the New Deal-era American Guide Series, was a literary success. Lauren Fensterstock is an American artist, writer, curator, critic, and educator living and working in Portland, Maine. Paul Pfeiffer (born 1966 in Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American sculptor, photographer and video artist. Described by peer artist Gregory Volk as a clever manipulator of popular media, images and video technology, Pfeiffer is stated (by Volk) as one 'who excels at recasting well-known athletic and entertainment events with surprising open-ended nuances.' Life Pfeiffer was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1966. At the age of ten, he moved to Philippines with his parents who were classically trained musicians. He later moved out of the country at the age of fifteen. Mel Chin (born 1951 in Houston, Texas, USA) is a conceptual art, conceptual visual artist.
