André Lalande
André Lalande (26 May 1913 – 19 October 1995) was a French Army officer and general in the Chasseurs Alpins and French Foreign Legion. He fought during the World War II at the heart of the Free French Forces, then in First Indochina War, Indochina and Algerian War, Algeria. Military career A graduate of École spéciale militaire de Saint-Cyr, promotion of ''Tafilalet'' 1931–1933, he was assigned as a Ranks in the French Army, sous-lieutenant at Metz. In 1937, following his request, he was assigned to the 6th Alpins Chasseurs Battalion (french: :fr:6e bataillon de chasseurs alpins, 6e Bataillon de Chasseurs Alpins, BCA). The unit was combat engaged in Norway during the Battle of Narvik from April to June 1940, where he was wounded in action, wounded. Since July 1940 and during the war, Lalande joined the Free French Forces. In December 1941, he was assigned to the 13th Demi-Brigade of Foreign Legion 13e DBLE garrisoned in Beirut. Lalande Prize
The Lalande Prize (French: ''Prix Lalande'' also known as Lalande Medal) was an award for scientific advances in astronomy, given from 1802 until 1970 by the French Academy of Sciences. The prize was endowed by astronomer Jérôme Lalande in 1801, a few years before his death in 1807, to enable the Academy of Sciences to make an annual award "to the person who makes the most unusual observation or writes the most useful paper to further the progress of Astronomy, in France or elsewhere." The awarded amount grew in time: in 1918 the amount awarded was 1000 Francs, and by 1950, it was 10,000 francs. It was combined with the Valz Prize ''(Prix Valz)'' in 1970 to create the Lalande-Valz Prize and then with a further 122 foundation prizes in 1997, resulting in the establishment of the Grande Médaille. The Grande Medaille is not limited to the field of astronomy. Winners See also * List of astronomy awards * List of Nobel laureates—Nobel Prize The Nobel Prizes ( ; sv, No ...

Lalande 25372
GJ 526 (Lalande 25372, Wolf 498) is a red dwarf star in the northern constellation of Boötes. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 8.5, which is too faint to be seen with the naked eye. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 0.184  arc seconds as measured by the Hipparcos satellite, this system is from Earth. History of observations This star is known at least from 1801, when it was included to Lalande's stellar catalogue '' Histoire céleste française''. In 1847 edition of Lalande's catalogue by Francis Baily it was assigned number 25372, since it sometimes designated as ''Lalande 25372'' or ''LAL 25372''. High proper motion of this star and its large parallax were known at least from 1911, when Frank Schlesinger published a paper where he announced its parallax and mentioned its proper motion value of 2.3 arcsec. In 1919, German astronomer Max Wolf included GJ 526 in his catalogue of high proper motion stars, giving it the identifier 498. Properties GJ ...

Lalande 21185
Lalande 21185 (also known as BD+36 2147, Gliese 411, and HD 95735) is a star in the south of Ursa Major. It is the apparent brightest red dwarf in the northern hemisphere.Only AX Microscopii and Lacaille 9352, in the southern hemisphere, are brighter Despite this, and being relatively close by, it is (as are all red dwarfs) very dim, being only magnitude 7.5 in visible light and thus too faint to be seen with the unaided eye. The star is visible through a small telescope or binoculars. At approximately away it is one of the stars nearest to the Solar System; only the Alpha Centauri system, Barnard's Star, and Wolf 359 and the brown dwarfs Luhman 16 and WISE 0855−0714 are known to be closer. Because of its proximity it is a frequent subject for astronomical surveys and other research and thus is known by numerous other designations, most commonly Gliese 411 and HD 95735. In approximately 19,900 years it will be at its closest, about 4.65 ly (1.43 pc) from the Sun, ...

Lalande 1299
HD 4628 (96 G. Piscium) is a main sequence star in the equatorial constellation of Pisces. It has a spectral classification of K2.5 V and an effective temperature of 5,055 K, giving it an orange-red hue with a slightly smaller mass and girth than the Sun. HD 4628 lies at a distance of approximately 24.3 light years from the Sun based on parallax. The apparent magnitude of 5.7 is just sufficient for this star to be viewed with the unaided eye. The star appears to be slightly older than the Sun—approximately 5.4 billion years in age. The surface activity is low and, based upon the detection of UV emission, it may have a relatively cool corona with a temperature of one million K. The star has a relatively high proper motion of 1.4 ″ per year and is moving in our general direction with a radial velocity of −10.4 km/s. HD 4628 will make its closest approach to the Sun in about 32,000 years, when it comes within . No definitive companion has yet bee ...

Histoire Céleste Française
''Histoire céleste française'' (''French Celestial History'') is an astrometric star catalogue published in 1801 by the French astronomer Jérôme Lalande and his staff at the Paris Observatory. This star catalog consists of the locations and apparent magnitudes of 47,390 stars, up to magnitude 9. Stars are identified by common name, Bayer designation or Flamsteed designation, when available. It also contains observations of other astronomical phenomena. It was the largest and most complete star catalog of its day. This publication is a collection of several books of astronomical recordings taken over the previous decade at the observatory. A significant rewriting of this popular catalog was published by Francis Baily in 1847. It is from this catalog that the star reference numbers were assigned that continue in use to this day, such as for ''Lalande 21185 Lalande 21185 (also known as BD+36 2147, Gliese 411, and HD 95735) is a star in the south of Ursa Major. Lalande (crater)
Lalande is a small lunar impact crater that lies in the central part of the visible Moon, on the eastern edge of Mare Insularum. It was named after French astronomer Jérôme Lalande. The crater is surrounded by a high-albedo area of ejecta that extends into a ray system with a maximum radius of over 300 kilometers. The interior wall has a terrace system, and there is a small central rise at the midpoint of the floor. It was formed during the Copernican period of the moon extending from 1.1 billion years ago to the present. Its young age is indicated by the bright rays of ejecta surrounding the crater, its sharp features, and the relative lack of later impacts in its interior. The rays of ejecta from Lalande overlay the ejecta rays from Copernicus Crater, meaning it is younger than Copernicus, and thus no more than 800 million years old. In 2002, a meteorite was discovered in the Oman desert by Edwin Gnos of the University of Berne. This rock, identified as Sayh al Uhaymir 169, is ...

French Cruiser Lalande

The class was built as part of a construction program intended to provide scouts for the main battle fleet. They were based on the preceding , the primary improvement being the addition of armor to the conning tower. ''Lalande'' was built in the 1880s and was completed in late 1890. She was armed with a main battery of four guns, protected with an armor deck that was thick, and had a top speed of . ''Lalande'' served with the Mediterranean Squadron for the first several years of her career, before being reduced to the Reserve Squadron in 1896 and again to the 2nd category of reserve. She temporarily returned to the Mediterranean Squadron in 1898 before once again being placed in reserve later that year, where she remained through 1905. The following year, she joined the Northern Squadron before transferring back to the Mediterranean for 1907 and 1908. She saw little us ...
