Lake Pleasant, Massachusetts
Lake Pleasant is a village in Montague, Massachusetts, United States. It is also the site of an early and prominent American Spiritualist campground. It claims to be the oldest continuously-existing Spiritualist community in the United States. Lake Pleasant was founded in 1870 as a "campmeeting grounds" with 75 tent lots, and by 1872 was popular with Spiritualists for summer tenting. In 1874 the New England Spiritualist Campmeeting Association (NESCA) was organized by Henry Buddington and Joseph Beals, and in 1879 formally incorporated. The village rapidly expanded to 90 small cottages, and around the lake were divided into many more camping lots. At its peak, circa 1900, Lake Pleasant contained 196 homes and cottages, swelling in August to as many as 2,000 residents. Lake Pleasant Township is a township in Red Lake County, Minnesota, United States. The population of the township was 126 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Marcoux or Marcoux Corner is located within the township. History Lake Pleasant Township took its name from a former lake which has since been drained. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , all land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 126 people, 41 households, and 35 families residing in the township. The population density was 3.5 people per square mile (1.4/km2). Lake Pleasant is a lake located in the Adirondack Park in New York in the United States. The lake is in the town of Lake Pleasant in Hamilton County. The lake is about long and about wide with its length oriented in an approximate northeast to southwest direction, the widest part at the northeast end. The village of Speculator is at its northern tip, and the hamlet of Lake Pleasant, the county seat, is by the western end. NY Route 8 traverses the north side of the lake, and South Shore Road goes around the south part. Lake Pleasant is linked to Sacandaga Lake by the Sacandaga Outlet, a small stream that passes under Route 8. The Sacandaga River drains Lake Pleasant and flows out the northern end by Speculator.
