The hamlet is located on northern shore of the Lake Newell Reservoir approximately south of Brooks and west of Highway 873. It is accessed from Highway 873 via Township Road 182 to Lake Newell Resort Road. Brooks is a city in southeast Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by the County of Newell. It is located on Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) and the Canadian Pacific Railway, approximately southeast of Calgary, and northwest of Medicine Hat. The city has an elevation of . History The area that is now Brooks was used as a bison-hunting ground for the Blackfoot and Crow. After Treaty 7 was signed in 1877, homesteaders moved into the area to begin farming. Lake Newell
Lake Newell is a large man-made reservoir in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located south of the city of Brooks, east of Veteran Highway. The reservoir was filled in 1914 through the construction of the Bassano Dam. It was named after T.H. Newell, a landowner and irrigation expert. The County of Newell is in turn named after the lake.
