Lai King Station
Lai King is an MTR rapid transit station in the suburb of Lai King in the Kwai Tsing District. The station is located above ground on a viaduct and is an interchange for the Tsuen Wan and Tung Chung lines. The Chinese name of the station uses the classical character of instead of the contemporary version of . The former is regarded as orthodox per the ''Kangxi dictionary''. The same goes for Lai Chi Kok station which shares the same character. History Lai King was opened on 10 May 1982 as an intermediate stop on the . The station was built to serve the adjacent public housing complex and the container terminal on the coast. Yin Lai Court
Lai King Estate () is a public housing estate in Lai King, Kwai Chung, New Territories, Hong Kong and is one of the oldest public housing estates in Kwai Tsing District. It is divided into two phases and consists of a total of eight residential buildings completed in 1975 (Phase 1), 1976 (Phase 2) and 2022 (Heng King House) respectively. Lai King station is located between the two phases. Lai Chi Kok Station
Lai Chi Kok () is a rapid transit station on the of the Hong Kong MTR system, between and stations. It was opened on 17 May 1982. The station is in an orange-red colour, and is a simple through station with an island platform. Platform screen doors have been retrofitted along both platforms in this station. Although the station is called Lai Chi Kok, it is located in Cheung Sha Wan. Passengers can use this station to access the western and southern part of Cheung Sha Wan. Western Cheung Sha Wan used to be an industrial area, but in recent years, several residential developments have been built on the reclaimed land, namely Banyan Garden, Liberté, The Pacifica, Aqua Marine, and Hoi Lai Estate. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. A cross-platform interchange is a type of interchange between different lines at a metro (or other railway) station. The term originates with the London Underground; such layouts exist in other networks but are not commonly so named. In the United States, it is often referred to as a cross-platform transfer. This configuration occurs at a station with island platforms, with a single platform in between the tracks allocated to two directions of travel, or two side platforms between the tracks, connected by level corridors. The benefit of this design is that passengers do not need to use stairs to another platform level for transfer. Airport Core Programme
The Airport Core Programme was a series of infrastructure projects centred on the new Hong Kong International Airport during the early 1990s. The programme was part of the Port and Airport Development Strategy, commonly known as the Rose Garden Project. The cost for the whole project was estimated at over HK$200 billion, and the Chinese Government was concerned about its impact on the financial reserve of the future Hong Kong SAR Government. Several changes were made to the plan, including the shortening of the Tsing Ma Bridge and the construction of the Airport Railway as a double-track railway.
