Lahav 433
Lahav 433 () is an Israeli crime-fighting umbrella organization within the Israel Police, created on January 1, 2008. Known as the "Israeli FBI", the unit is the merger of five law enforcement offices into one. It was established as an initiative of then-Minister for Public Security, Avi Dichter, and the Head of Police's Investigations Branch, Yohanan Danino. It is tasked with investigating national crimes and corruption. It also investigates crimes such as murder and sexual assault. The number four is for the four region departments that form the unit while the number 33 is for The Gideonites, a Mista'arvim unit. The Unit's Headquarters is located in the North Industrial Zone of Lod. The current chief commander is Yigal Ben Shalom, since March 2018. Lahav 433 Headquarters
Lahav ( he, לַהַב, ''lit. blade'') is a kibbutz in southern Israel. Located around 20 km north of Beersheba and covering 33,000 dunams, it falls under the jurisdiction of Bnei Shimon Regional Council. In it had a population of . History The kibbutz was established in 1952 and was initially named Tziklag ( he, צקלג) after the Biblical city of Ziklag, which was thought to have been located nearby. Originally the founders had been unsure whether to settle in the Negev or Galilee, but accepted a government decision that settling on Tel Halif (''Tell el-Khuweilifeh'') in the Negev was more important. Avi Dichter
Avi Dichter ( he, אָבִי דִּיכְטֶר, ; born 14 December 1952) is an Israeli politician. A former Minister of Internal Security and Shin Bet director, he resigned from the Knesset and left Kadima in August 2012 in order to become Minister of Home Front Defense, a position he vacated in March 2013. Biography Avraham (Avi) Dichter was born in Ashkelon. His parents were Holocaust survivors. As an adolescent, he joined the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement. After graduating high school, he served in an elite unit of the Israel Defense Forces, Sayeret Matkal, under then Commander Ehud Barak. Upon completing his military service, Dichter joined Shin Bet, Israel's internal security service. In 1986, he earned a BA in Social Science from Bar-Ilan University, in Ramat Gan. Yohanan Danino
Rav Nitzav Yohanan Danino ( he, יוחנן דנינו; born 1959) is an Israeli police officer who served from May 1, 2011, to June 30, 2015, as the 17th chief of the Israel Police. Among other posts, he has led the Unit of International Crime Investigations and the police's Southern Command. He was also involved in high-profile investigations against top politicians, including Ehud Olmert, Avraham Hirschson, and Avigdor Lieberman. Personal life Danino was born in Ashkelon on 20 December 1959 to a religious family, and studied in the Or Etzion Yeshiva. His parents, Israel and Lisa, were both school teachers. He currently resides in Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, and is married, with four children. Mista'arvim
Mista'arvim ( he, מסתערבים; ar, مستعربين, translit=musta'ribīn), also spelled mista'aravim, is the name given to counter-terrorism units of the Israel Defense Forces, Israel Border Police, and Israel Police who operate undercover. Such units are specifically trained to assimilate among the local Arab population. They are commonly tasked with performing intelligence gathering, law enforcement, hostage rescue and counter-terrorism, and to use disguise and surprise as their main weapons. The name is derived from the Arabic "Musta'arabi", meaning "those who live among the Arabs", which refers to the Musta'arabi Jews, Arabic-speaking Jews who lived in the Middle East since the beginning of the Arab rule in the 7th century, prior to the arrival of Ladino-speaking Sephardic Jews following their expulsion from Spain in 1492. The department was originally founded in 1978, after the 1977 investigation of worsening major crime trends in the Israeli society, by the Shimron Commission, since the commission's findings pointed at the existence of organized crime in the country. In the early days the department was focused solely on major crimes. Yoav Segalovich ( he, יוֹאָב סֶגָלוֹבִיץ, born 23 April 1959) is an Israeli law enforcement officer and politician. Previously head of Lahav 433 and the Investigations and Intelligence Division, he is currently a member of the Knesset for Yesh Atid. Biography Segalovich was born in 1959 to Nahum and Tahia. He grew up in Tel Aviv and served in the Paratroopers Brigade during his national service in the Israel Defense Forces. He subsequently studied law at Tel Aviv University and volunteered in the Civil Guard. He joined the Police and worked as a prosecutor in the Sharon region, before becoming head of the Investigations Department in Netanya. He later became a trainer at the College for Senior Police Officers, before being appointed commander of the Eilat area police in September 2002.
