Lagos State Ministry Of Transport
The Lagos State Ministry of Transport is the government ministry responsible for transportation in Lagos State, Nigeria. In 1984, under the administration of Governor Gbolahan Mudasiru, the Ministry of Transportation was merged with the Ministry of Works and became the Ministry of Works and Transport. The ministry was set up for two main objectives: * To set up a centralized transit system within the metropolis. * To tackle the problems of transportation in the state. History Before 1979, there existed only a Transportation Unit in the planning division of the old Ministry of Works and Planning. Gbolahan Mudasiru
Gbolahan Mudasiru (18 October 1945 – 23 September 2003) was a Nigerian Air Force officer who was appointed Governor of Lagos State, Nigeria, who served in office between January 1984 and August 1986 during the military regimes of General Muhammadu Buhari and his successor General Ibrahim Babangida. As governor, he continued the work of his predecessor Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande in improving schools infrastructure and the standards of teaching. He also introduced improved measures to keep the streets clean and orderly. He attempted to ban street traders, but without success. He set up committees to review the Lagos Metro line project initiated by Jakande, which recommended going ahead with the project, but it was cancelled on the orders of the head of state, General Buhari. Lateef Jakande
Lateef Kayode Jakande (23 July 1929 – 11 February 2021) was a Nigerian journalist and politician who served as governor of Lagos State from 1979 to 1983, and later Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime. Background Lateef Kayode Jakande was born in the Epetedo area of Lagos Island, Lagos State on July 29, 1929. Both parents are from Omu-Aran, Kwara State. He studied at the Lagos public school at Enu-Owa, Lagos Island, then at Bunham Memorial Methodist School, Port Harcourt (1934–43). He studied at King's College, Lagos in 1943, and then enrolled at Ilesha Grammar School in 1945, where he edited a literary paper called ''The Quarterly Mirror''.
