Lafontaine (also known as Lafontaine—Rosemont) was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 1979. This riding was created in 1947 from parts of Hochelaga, St. James and St. Mary ridings. It consisted of a part of the city of Montreal. The riding's name was changed in 1975 to "Lafontaine—Rosemont", and the riding was abolished in 1976 when it was redistributed into Hochelaga, Laurier, Maisonneuve and Rosemont ridings. Hochelaga (formerly known as Sainte-Marie and Montreal—Sainte-Marie) is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1988 and since 2004. Geography The district includes the neighbourhood of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and the western part of the neighbourhood of Longue-Pointe in the Borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, the eastern part of the neighbourhood of Rosemont in the Borough of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and the eastern part of the neighbourhood of Centre-Sud in the Borough of Ville-Marie. Laurier, a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1935 to 1988. It was set up in 1933 from parts of Laurier—Outremont and Saint-Denis ridings. It was abolished in 1987 when it was redistributed into Laurier—Sainte-Marie, Outremont, Rosemont and Saint-Henri—Westmount ridings. Maisonneuve (electoral District)
Maisonneuve was a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1896 to 1935. A "Maisonneuve" riding also existed from 1966 to 1970 when it renamed " Maisonneuve—Rosemont", and from 1976 to 1978 when it was renamed "Hochelaga—Maisonneuve". Claude-André Lachance
Claude-André Lachance (born April 5, 1954) is a former Canadian politician. At the time of his election, aged 20, Lachance was the youngest person ever to be elected to the House of Commons of Canada, and held this record until the election of 19-year-old Pierre-Luc Dusseault in 2011. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was first elected as a Liberal candidate in the 1974 federal election in the Montreal riding of Rosemont. He was re-elected in the 1979 and 1980 elections. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada (1979) and Minister of State (Trade) (1980–1981). He earned a Civil Law degree from McGill University, followed by a master's degree in Public Law from University of Ottawa. He was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1977. This is a list of Canada's 338 federal electoral districts (commonly referred to as '' ridings'' in Canadian English) as defined by the ''2013 Representation Order''. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons every election. Provincial electoral districts often have names similar to their local federal counterpart, but usually have different geographic boundaries.
