Ladislav Kamenický
Ladislav Kamenický (born 4 October 1970 ) is an MP of the National Council of Slovakia for Direction – Slovak Social Democracy (Smer-SD). He served as the Minister of Finance for little over a year between 2019 and 2020. Ladislav Kamenický graduated from the University of Economics in Bratislava. In 2012 he became an MP of the National Council of Slovakia. As an MP, is seen as polite and staunchly loyal to the leadership of Smer-SD's Chairman and Kamenický's personal friend Robert Fico . In 2019 he became the Minister of Finance, filling the seat emptied after the previous minister Peter Kažimír became the Central Bank Governor. The choice of Kamenický was seen as a compromise between various factions of Smer-SD. The National Council of the Slovak Republic ( sk, Národná rada Slovenskej republiky), abbreviated to ''NR SR'', is the national parliament of Slovakia. It is unicameral and consists of 150 members, who are elected by universal suffrage under proportional representation with seats distributed via Hagenbach-Bischoff quota every four years. Slovakia's parliament has been called the 'National Council' since 1 October 1992. 2020 Slovak Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Slovakia on 29 February 2020 to elect all 150 members of the National Council. The anti-corruption list led by Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) movement emerged as the largest parliamentary group, winning 53 seats. The ruling coalition comprising Direction – Social Democracy (SMER–SD), the Slovak National Party (SNS), and Most–Híd (MH), led by Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini of SMER–SD, won only 38, with both the SNS and MH losing their parliamentary representation. It was the first time since the 2006 elections that SMER–SD did not emerge as the party with the most seats. Robert Fico
Robert Fico (; born 15 September 1964) is a Slovak politician who served as the prime minister of Slovakia from 2006 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2018 (when he resigned). He has been the first leader of the Direction – Social Democracy (SMER-SD) party since 1999. First elected to Parliament in 1992 (whilst within Czechoslovakia), he was later appointed to the Council of Europe. Following his party's victory in the 2006 parliamentary election, he formed the first Fico Cabinet. After the 2010 parliamentary election, Fico sat as an opposition member of parliament, effectively as leader of the opposition.
